Can I unblacklist a phone with an unpaid balance

I recently purchased an iPhone 6s without knowing it was blacklisted as i tried to use it on Verizon. Is there anyway it can be taken off the blacklist? Apparently the previous owner owed a bill on it and didn’t pay it. Or can I use the phone on AT&T at all without going through the trouble and use it under a new account?

Hello @Shaybaybaye,

Purchasing a new phone can always be exciting!  I understand you need to have a phone removed from the blacklist.  This can be a hassle, especially with the new phone.  We can guide you on the proper route for this!

I noticed you did private message us.  I will provide the details to your concern via the private message.

Please look forward to my response in your inbox!

@Shaybaybaye Your phone is likely not blacklisted. ATT does not blacklist phones for non payment, it is probably just locked to ATT. ATT will not unlock it until it is paid off but the phone should still work on ATT.

@Aajowat if you read the thread you will see it's not added to the black list. Just can't be unlocked

AT&T is the absolute worst phone company I have ever dealt with. I’ve paid $1000 phone bills on my autopay and turned it off when I noticed the big chunks coming out of my bank account. I was told numerous times they could not access my account information until past due was paid. It wasn’t my fault I was lied to and paid the past due balance because I wanted to stay with my wireless provider that I’ve been with since 2013. My bill was supposedly adjusted.... But then when I received my next phone bill it was never adjusted. I then sat on the phone with customer service for over 16 hours over the next 2 days and nothing was accomplished. Supervisors never called me back or the representative was scared to put them on because I believe from my past business history they did not want to look as if they could not handle the situation at hand. I was scammed by AT&T. I’m a father of a child that is a paraplegic and 2 daughters. They did not care to fix the situation. All they cared about was stealing from my bank account. I will and am going to post my long history and story of my misfortunes with this horrible company on every media outlet possible.

Contact the attorney general's office. I had enough of these companies thinking they can do what they want and so far, Ive gotten over $8,000 because of unlawful practices they've committed. Trust me, they can help you, its why they're there.

Amen!!! Same thing has happened to my family. When we switched over to them, we were told that our first bill was only going to be a certain amount. WRONG! So, we paid that amount. The next month rolled around and our bill was over 700 dollars. Didn't know about the amount until the confirmation text stating that the amount had been extracted. Thought everything was good. WRONG! Our statement said zero balance, but we started getting texts and calls stating our bill was overdue. Phones get shut off (4 lines). We call and one rep says the balance is zero, then we get another that says we owe 400. What happened to the 700? Somehow, (we still have yet to get an answer on this one), the money was returned to the bank. Thing is our bank has no record or clue as to what at&t is talking about. It is a scam! So disappointed! Good for you for telling your story! Hopefully it will save more families and individuals from being ripped off!!!

I have a question I was on my friends account well we were paying her bills and one day when I didn’t send her the extra money that she wanted she turned her our phones off and reported them stolen to att. I have all the proof that I was on the account I didn’t steal anything is there anyway to get my phone unblacklisted so I can use it again? I would be happy to pay my own bill

Thank you for reaching out to us @Friendsarefake21.

Your only course of action in this situation is to reach out to your friend and try to convince her to unblacklist the device and allow you to transfer the billing responsibility to your own account. Unfortunately, since your friend is the account holder in this situation, our options are fairly limited.
