AT&T Wireless internet with IFWA-40 very slow (unusable) . But cell phone works fine.

I purchased a AT&T IFWA-40 for home internet. My only other option where I live is satellite.  I thought this would work great, because my cell phone (straight talk on AT&T sim) works great here. With my phone I get speeds around 3-5 mbps. So I set up the box when it arrives, it connects just fine, and has a strong full bars signal, but I can't even load e-mail with it. Ran speedtest and got 0.02 mbps.

I don't get it, isn't this connecting to the same 4GLTE tower as my cell phone. I expected to get better results with AT&T proper, then I did with a virtual carrier like straight talk. Will be returning device shortly if no solution.

Hi, @Sags13,

We'd love to help with this. If you haven't yet, perform a reset on your IFWA40. Let us know if this does the trick.

Reset with button on box, no change. Tried to reset on attwirelessinternet and it's stuck on screen titled System - Erasing.

Which says "Waiting for changes to be applied..." For over an hour.

Finally got the factory reset on attwirelessinternet to finish. No change. Speed test says 0.07 Mbps. Just ran it on my straight talk att phone and got 25 Mbps.

Hi, @Sags13

Whats the Status Indicators on the device sine the restart? Green, red, blinking? Do you have any devices connected using Ethernet? If so whats the speed? Are you using a Wireless Home Phone? Where is the base located? By a window, away from electric motors or magnets?

Please post back with a few more details.

Status lights. Power light green, no phone light. (No phone connected) wifi light blinking green, battery light green, LTE light green, signal lights, 4 bars green.

Tried the box in several different areas with no change, tried plugging the box into computer directly, no change, no other ethernet devices, no home phone, nothing I can think of that would interfere.

Running speetest I'm consistently getting less then 0.1 Mbps download, (sometimes it's so slow speed test won't even work) upload won't even register. and pings around 60.  My straight talk att sim card phone is getting 5-25 Mbps down, similar up, and also around 60 Ms pings. In the exact same locations.

Hello @Sags13,

Thank you for letting us know. We can definitely provide you with some troubleshooting steps for this issue that you're experiencing with your wireless internet speeds. You can follow the steps at this link to Troubleshoot limited or no connectivity on your AT&T Wireless Internet device. It seems that the issue may not be your signal as of right now, because you currently have 4 green bars on your device's signal strength indicator. Other connected devices may be transferring a large
amount of data. To view and block other connected devices, please go to the AT&T Wireless Internet Manager under Connected devices. Let us know if this helps.

Yes, always has had 4 bars signal and LTE. Signal is not the problem.

I have no other devices connected.

This is my problem identically. There is no control of this router. The settings are all hidden as AT&T has locked the device down so much, the customer has no control over any of the settings in the router/modem.

In the end, I tried another identical unit and it worked fine. It is clearly a firmware or even hardware bug that they just don’t care enough to track down.

Very poorly supported device, but if you can get one that works, it’s great!

I purchased a AT&T IF0WA-4 also and had same problem slow .07mps speeds. After calling product support (useless) with answers other than reading this forum and telling me others had the same problem I went to local AT&T store. Manager tested it and showed .07mps then brought out another AT&T IF0WA-4 and swapped my sim card and it also tested at .07mps. Manager then called there number for product support and after 45 minutes determined that the AT&T IF0WA-40 was setup on a voice only plan(slow data) and not linked to my data plan. Evidently the AT&T IF0WA-4 has to be setup on its own data plan and then linked to my data plan. After this was done speed test was same as my cell phone tested at 40mps. Wish AT&T would take the time to train employees on new products and all these problems could be avoided.
