ATT Unite Explorer - Charging Issue

I'm having some trouble charging my Unite Explorer.  It seems that the only way that it will charge is if I use the orginal charger that came with the device.  This charger will not charge other devices that I have (iPhone, etc), so it adds some bulk to my travels.  I didn't have this problem with the Unite Pro.  Has anyone expereinced this issue?  Do I have a defective unit and/or is there a work around.   Understand this is a "first world" problem, but if I had known that this would be an issue, I would have chosen a different device.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi there @vanburen982!

I’m sorry for the trouble! I definitely understand wanting to maximize your travel efficiency! (Especially with air travel these days!)

I did some research on this matter, and was not able to find any material specifying a unique difference between this charger and others.

The cable appears to be a standard Micro USB to USB connector, however I did find a specific configuration, recommend for charging phones off the hotspot!

Your device should have come with a BatteryBoost cable (Should be a fairly plain USB connector) that you can connect to the Hotspot’s charging port! If you connect this to the USB end of a phone’s charger cable, it should allow you to charge it as well!

Perhaps this feature was included due to the seemingly incompatible charging accessories?

I hope that helps out! Thanks for being a part of the AT&T Community Forums!

I just received my Unite and it will not charge.  I have used the original cable and plug plus I have tried all different combinations of plugs and cables.  The battery indicator says 44% but if I unplug the unit it shuts off like the battery is dead.  If I leave it plugged in it works great but it still does not charge.  Please help.

Hello @bforeman99,

I am sorry to hear the Unite is not charging.  I understand how important it is to have, especially if you travel a lot.  I will be more than happy to help!

One thing which could be causing the issue is the contacts could be dirty.  Please power off the device, remove the battery, check contacts for smudges or dirt, clean carefully, reinsert battery, and charge device for a few hours to see if it is charging.

Our Device Support Page has great step-by-step guides! Please select your device’s make and model, and for a guide on how to remove the battery, please go to Tutorials > About Your Device > Assemble Your Device.

Please let me know if this helps! Have a fantastic day!
