AT&T reports I used more data than what my phone says I used
I have a Blackberry Classic on the GoPhone 1.5 GB data plan. My phone reports I used 1GB of data but AT&T says I used all 1.5 GB. This is 50% more than what the phone reports. I was wondering if it's a posibillity AT&T's measurements arew wrong.

Hello @vcrasneanu
Data transport is calculated in five-kilobyte increments, and actual transport is rounded up to the next five-kilobyte increment at the end of each data session for billing purposes.
Network overhead, software update requests, email notifications and resend requests caused by network errors can increase measured kilobytes. Data transport occurs whenever your device is connected to our network and is engaged in any data transmission. Some applications, content, programs, and software that you download of that comes pre-loaded on your device automatically and regularly send and receive data transmissions in order to function properly without you affirmatively initiating the request and without your knowledge.
For example, applications that provide real-time information and location-based apps connect to to our network, and send and receive updated information so that it is available to you when you want to access it.
You will be billed for all data sessions which you begin or run automatically in the background without your knowledge, and whether successful or not.
If you feel that you are being charged in error, I would recommend turning off cellular data on your device for periods of time when your device is idle. Should you still be charged during these periods of time, then please let us know and we can investigate further.
Thank you,
Michelle

While the lesson in how data is calculated is interesting, but the difference is over 500,000 kilobytes. That can't be written off as a rounding error.
@vcrasneanu
Your billing cycle starts at midnight and ends at midnight. Is your phone set to the correct cycle?
I have found differences in my data use, but never as much as half a GB. The difference was always accounted for in the next month.
I know nothing about how BB displays and calculates data or if there is hidden data use like the iPhone. Good luck persuing the problem.

We are talking about 50% more data reported by AT&T compared with my phone. Rounding up doesn't expalin it.
My phone reports all mobile data activity activity including the background applications like system; facebook, PIM services; BBM; Blackberry Hub; Device connections; Assistant and Andrroid Player
I would really love to see if I'm charged if I turn off the data but the online account shows 100 MB increments.

Billing cycle is set corectly. GoPhon uses a 30 days billing cycle, last month was a 30 days month. I adjust the billing cycle accordingly when neccesary and pay attention to the data reported when I do that.

Agreed, and I wonder if ATT will respond to the reply I wrote above to that effect.
Data reports back hours after use, but if data were off and still adding up, it would certainly prove something is wrong. Of course it's pretty much impossible to run a smartphone with no data.
track next month and see how it turns out.
