AT&T removed locked Wifi Calling options

I have a CAT61  phone with android 9 and since it's unlocked (not bought from AT&T) after about 30 days AT&T removed all or most Wifi calling options/settings from the phone rendering it a paperweight in my home because of poor coverage. How do I restore the menu options for wifi calling if I go to another carrier since my AT&T coverage is non-existent at home? Or does AT&T permanently ruin your phone?

I certainly hope you don't state you're not familiar with this phone and cannot help, you managed to remove it all.

That phone never had Wi-Fi calling options on AT&T to begin with. What you are indicating is that those functions are unavailable in settings.

Those functions are unavailable in settings, because carrier settings exclude non functional features.

The only carrier that that phone is going to work on with Wi-Fi calling is T-Mobile.

BTW, this is a customer populated forum not AT&T customer support. I am familiar with the CAT rugged phones.   None of them are listed on AT&T list going forward as compatible LTE phones. That doesn't mean they won't list them somewhere down the road. However they will not be Wi-Fi call compatible even if added to the voice over LTE compatible phone list.

At the bottom of the list is the only intrinsically safe rugged smartphone, Pepperl+Fuchs smart ex-02.   And it's still excluded from wifi calling.

To further elaborate, once you switch to a carrier that allows WiFi calling on your phone, your WiFi calling options will reappear. You shouldn’t have to do anything.

I had WiFi calling for almost the first 30 days on my phone until some update happened from AT&T. CAT 61 has Wifi calling support ( in communications with them on this topic also). I have already  switched to another carrier which assures me they support Wifi Calling. The Setting menu still knows about the Wifi Calling option when searching but the underlying settings have been removed. I know they were there because I turned it on when at home prior to the update. AT&T also removed the ability to add or remove "Calling Account" additions or removals so I cannot remove the  current "AT&T".

Sorry if this is not the place for these issues, just makes me mad that AT&T can so irreversibly change a phone.

It is your service that is affected, not the phone.

Wi-Fi calling never should have been available on that phone, it is not even  listed as voice over LTE compatible with AT&T.    VoLTE is a prerequisite for wifi calling.

If you switch to T-Mobile, please let AT&T know why they lost a customer.

I have always purchased unlocked phones for use on AT&T. Most phones come with Wi-Fi calling built into their operating system, but those services are blocked buy AT&T and 'grayed out' in settings.  I have no intention of switching to iPhone, and the pixel phones were nice.  But I have owned 3 one plus phones, which are great at half the cost.   AT&T needs to consider what it needs to do to keep customers by offering services that they want and need, rather than trying to tie them to service with extended installment agreements. It did not keep me, and I bet it won't keep you either.

This is the case of a IMEI sweep catching a phone getting service it should not.  Most times its instant but with some phones it can take weeks to get filtered.

The CAT 61, with the new carrier has VoLTE and uses it. The loss of Wifi calling the is ONLY reason I left AT&T. For the first few weeks of owning the phone I would regularly go in and turn on & off Wifi Calling, it was even on the main Setting pull down at the top of the main screen. All gone after a couple weeks and have not returned since changing to a different carrier.  I didn't care that I paid much more for their service than competitors, I wanted what I thought was quality service. Let me add that I went into an AT&T store to get the service and was never told that Wifi Calling would be disabled.

If your going to use unlocked phones you have to check with each carrier online.  As store employees really are just sales and no longer keep up with what unlocked phone does what.

@scoganz  yeah, if you want to use your own phone, it’s up to you to do the legwork.  And not with employees who are paid to sell carrier equipment.

OK, I can see this is not going anywhere, as expected. I'll continue working the phone people and maybe they can reflash it entirely. I am done with AT&T, got rid of my Directv and now my cellular service so my life is better now. Please close this thread.
