Att homebase device replacement

Is there a replacement for this device. .?

I don’t use the phone (I forward it to my cell)

Can I replace with a hot spot and keep my home phone and internet plan?  I have talked to customer care and they don’t seem to understand what I am asking.  This is my only internet. Its an old device that is slow and with outdated security that can’t be updated.

I am an att retiree and get a discount specific to this plan.

thanks

Let's look into home base replacement options for you!

We'd like to know a bit more information to get a better understanding:

Do you currently have Landline service with you home phone and internet?

Are you trying to move to a wireless hot spot for both the internet and home phone?

Is your old device an internet modem or hot spot?

Please provide us more specific details to continue.

We look forward to your reply

I have a grandfathered wireless plan that consists of a wireless home phone and wireless internet bundle.  No landline.
The device is an At&t homebase.  This device is outdated.

it has poor security and old technology. It’s a hotspot which also provides phone service.

I forward the phone number to my cell phone so I don’t need the phone service.

I would like to get a more modern device but keep my grandfathered plan which gives me 100 gig of internet.

I have two questions

1.  Can I just get a modern hotspot and put it on my grandfathered plan or do I need to get a hot spot/phone combination?

OR

2.  Does a hot spot/phone combination device that is updated exist?

Let's share some helpful tips that'll help determine how you want to upgrade your AT&T Wireless Internet device @.

The grandfathered wireless plan that you're currently on isn't compatible with our Mobile Hotspot devices as it's a data-only mobile Internet device.

A data rate plan with tethering is required for Mobile Hotspot-enabled devices.

So if you're interested in upgrading to one of our current mobile hotspots we offer, we recommend purchasing a new data only plan.

We hope this helps with your decision to upgrade your device.

Please let us know if you have other questions.

Thank you for reaching out to AT&T Community Forums.

Hello @Rivahlizard,

Thanks for reaching back out to us.

The latest version of a home phone solution with the added benefit of AT&T internet would be our AT&T Wireless Internet device (AWI).

However, we do not currently have any in stock for sale at this time.

We do apologize for the inconvenience.

Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

if no new Awi devices are available am eligible to buy a reconditioned one as a retiree?  When will my existing homebase stop working on the network?

should I wait for new phone/internet device that will be 5G compatible.  Is that on the horizon.  Don’t want to be a new 4g device if a 5G device will be out in the next few months.

Hi @, we'd be happy to help answer you questions.

There is no reconditioned AWI devices available. AWI devices are no longer available for purchase not even as refurbished.

Effective January 1, 2022, AWI will be sunset, and will no longer be available for new sales.

Currently we don't have any type of device that support both voice and data use. We can't confirm at this time if there will be one available in the near future.

We hope this information helps, and thank you for reaching out to the Community.

Can you tell me about the new plan for 5g hotspot?  I understand that there is a plan for $55 for 100gig of 5G  But what if you are NOT In a 5G area?  Is this plan and device compatible with LTE ?  I live in an LTE only area.

Hi @Rivahlizard! Let's address your 5G inquiry!

For 5G service, 5G Coverage is required alongside a 5G capable device and an AT&T Unlimited Plan. Learn more about 5G Access on this link provided. Use the SIM card that comes with your 5G device to also maximize your network experience.

We hope this is helpful! Thank you for reaching out to the community!

You didnt answer my question.

If i get a new 5g hotspot with 5g service will it also work in an LTE only area?  Is there a  hotspot plan for $55 for 100gig that also works in LTE or is it ONLY for area with 5G coverage.
