Asus Rog Phone 8 compatibility

So I purchased the new Asus Rog Phone 8 from a seller in Hong Kong.  He says its compatible with the GSM network, I.E At&t and T-Mobile.  I am currently with Verizon, and I want to add a wireless plan to my internet plan using this phone.  This phone does take a sim.  It is not locked to any network.  The seller says it is a SIMfree phone meaning it is not locked to any network and should be compatible with networks that utilize the GSM network. I input the IMEI number in the compability box and it says its not compatible.  If you look on the compatibility list, the Asus Rog Phone 7 is compatible.  Am I having this issue because the phone literally was released about 3 weeks ago.

If Asus is keeping up with testing, the 8 may make the list. But like you said it's only a 3 week old phone.

ATT isn't very accommodating.  You could buy service and insert a sim and it will work. Or it won't. And at this point AT&T won't help you. If it doesn't work, don't bother them.

I've had better luck using phones on Verizon, that would not be allowed on AT&T

You bought a phone from a seller in Hong Kong for use in the United States and are taking the sellers word that everything will be hunky-dory? Should have checked with AT&T first to verify if the phone would be on their compatible/allowed list.

Best case scenario is that it just hasn't been verified yet as it is so new and eventually it will work with AT&T. Otherwise you've got an expensive paperweight that you either return to seller and get your money back or pass on to someone else.

Btw, the international version is unlikely to work.  Hope you bought the North American version

Try to enable VOLTE by dailing *#*#3642623344#*#* on the dialpad. I did this with my ROG phone 8 because I was having the same issue. Now I can make and recieved calls.

@Donlavon

Did you buy the North American model? North American model should work.

It won't work with the American version either. AT&T is a hot mess and won't support customers on this. I know I bought the US Version and it still won't work. It's not the phone that's garbage. It's the service from AT&T

If a seller or manufacturer sells a “US version “ or claims that their phone works with AT&T in the U.S., and it doesn’t, that’s on the seller or manufacturer.  AT&T’s bands are public knowledge.  It’s not the responsibility to make sure that every make and model of phone works with their service.  It’s up the manufacturers to make phones that work with AT&T if they want to sell them to AT&T customers.
