Alcatel Smartflip MMS messages

How do I get MMS messages on my Alcatel Smartflip?  It tells me to download and then it says there was a problem.  

Any suggestions would be most helpful.

My husband can get regular messages but when someone tries to add a picture or emoji, he does not get it.  Someone sent a message to his phone and mine and it said it was an MMS message and to download it.  There was an error message. This message was text only and he could not get it.   We tried to take the battery out and put it back in to see if it would help and it did not.  I googled the problem and did what it said but still nothing.  He had an older flip phone before with less problems.  If it had not died we would not have had these issues.   

 

I also went to the messaging troubleshooting tool which did nothing.  It kept telling me to make a selection even after I have done so.

We also want to know;

  • when did this actually start
  • has he ever been able to receive MMS messages
  • did you check the messaging app settings to see if there are any restrictions to multimedia messages
  • is he able to send MMS
  • are you able to download multimedia files from other applications like WhatsApp, etc

I believe this has been since he bought the phone (brand new) in May (I think that's when he bought it).  He gets the message that he received an MMS message but cannot download it.  He sends regular text messages.  He does not have any apps with his phone.

Greetings @!

 

We recommend that you try the following on your device. In the Messages app screen, press Right Menu to access Options > select Settings and press OK to view the following options:

  1. Auto Retrieve Messages: Select this option to automatically retrieve all your multimedia messages.
    • When On without roaming is selected, the multimedia message header plus the message body and attachments will automatically download to your phone when not in roaming mode, this is default option.
    • When On with roaming option is selected, the multimedia message header plus the message body and attachments will automatically download to your phone when in roaming mode. When you select Off, only the multimedia message header will be retrieved and shown in your Messaging screen.

A couple of things to keep in mind when trying to download send and receive MMS: Make sure there is sufficient phone memory for your download. Also, check your subscription status with your service provider.

Ask the tech support to check the data connection. Here is the rest of my story. And thanks for posting, mgkdsmOMH. I went to the store, sat with the store manager while tech support was called. Went thru all the same processes that I had already done at home 3 different days with tech support from 3 different agents. Several attempts of the same sequence at the store. Almost an hour at the store. Again, the agent had me repeat the same process - turn of my data. Turn off my phone, turn on my phone, turn on my data, send a picture. And then .... is worked. Obviously, it was nothing that I had done because I had already repeated this sequences numerous times. So I asked, "What did YOU do? The agent said they had turned on data connection.

Thank you.  I will tell my husband.  We tried the first bit of information and it did not work.
