Every one needs a photo ID.
The list of things you can't do without one is huge. You can't open a bank account, you can't cash a check, you can't get your Social Security number, and on most states you can't vote.

Student ID? Employee badge (with photo)?
If it's not government issue (DL/Passport/State ID), it's going to be arbitrary if it's accepted.
