Unlimited international plan - Brazil can't make calls

I have international unlimited plan and use my phone in Brazil while traveling. I got text confirmation from ATT when I landed that the plan was working. I can receive voice calls (with wifi on or off), I have data (with wifi on and off), but I can't call US. Phone Iphone 14. Just got here couple days ago? Any suggestions (dialing in this format +1-xxx-xxx-xxxx).

The +1 format is correct for calling a US number.

If problem persists, try support,  +1.314.925.6925 (fingers crossed)

This is not helping… I’m in Brazil and experiencing the same issue. Can’t make any phone calls.  So getting the US help number doesn’t help since I can’t call.  The website is an AI chat also doesn’t help. I need help to make phone calls in Brazil!

Yep. Never got an answer with this one. We're looking at other services for our next trip. We go there alot and hoped that ATT plan would work.

What a bummer! I came last year and it worked. This year this is my second trip, both trips the calling didn’t work. Frustrating… I’m only here for work trip for 2 weeks, changing to a local number is just very troublesome. 🤨

That's rather odd. Brazil is covered 100% free if you are on the unlimited Elite or premium plan. No roaming charges whatsoever.

One of my dog boarding clients went to visit his parents (Brazil) for the first time in 3 years in January. I asked him what service he was using because I usually text twice a day to let them know how things are going back here. Fortunately he was already on the Elite plan. He was thrilled to know he wouldn't get any charges. Had no problem whatsoever. And he didn't know that he could use data or call his girlfriend back in the United States without any charges.

Also...There have been multiple posts from people who are wintering there for two or three months in various parts of South American  or Costa Rica. No problem using service at all.

Are you sure you are on a compatible plan?

Postpaid unlimited plans would roam with international day pass unless you're on Elite or premium then it's free.

Prepaid plans are only covered in select countries  (Columbia is NEW) and only if you add the $35 roaming add-on

100% sure that we are on compatible plan with wife's phone. We purchased specific plan because wife travels to Brazil alot. Were on Unlimited Premium - not prepaid. For my phone, which is through my work on some other plan, I had to pay $10/day and it worked fine, so no way there was no service since wife was right close to me. No good to take my money and not provide service and send my to chat to AI bot.

A lovely coworker has helped me figured it out!!! I’m an iPhone user, so I went to settings- cellular- network selection. Turn off automatic, and manually select VIVO. Voila, it works! I can call back to the US with +1 (xxx) xxx- xxxx! Yay!!

kudlao. I suspect you and your wife might possibly have been roaming on different networks, and your one was not providing you service. remember they are not ATT networks, they are local carriers!

@kudlao

If your wife travels to Brazil a lot, the unlimited Elite or premium plan provides free roaming.  Any discount, like AARP would reduce the cost of the premium plan to the same cost as extra plan.

You do not have to be 50 years old to join AARP. They don't check your ID they just want your $12 to join
