No service, unable to send iMessages, make nor receive calls while at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA

Yesterday my wife, daughter, and I were unable to use our phones while at an amusement park, Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA.  All attempted calls responded with “Call Failed” message, iMessages were unable to be delivered, some “text” messages were able to go through, but not many.  My daughter’s friends phones on other networks worked just fine.  Other park attendees with AT&T did not have issues either.  We turned our phones off and on numerous times, but that did not solve the issue.  Can someone explain why this happened to us yesterday?

Hello, @darrickhester. We regret to hear that you had that experience in that area. We know how important it is to maintain a signal while you are out and about. We want to help.

Upon looking at the coverage map, we can see Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA at this time has 4G LTE coverage. These areas represent the AT&T owned and operated LTE and High Speed Packet Access (HSPA+) coverage areas. Compatible device required. Certain 4G LTE devices aren’t compatible in select LTE network coverage areas. Also, the signal may not have been as strong in a place with heavy traffic.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please let us know!

Thanks for the response.  We all consistently had 3 or 4 “bars”, but the phones still didn’t work.  We had a XR, 12 Pro and 13 Pro, out of curiosity what type of phones would we have needed to avoid this issue as we do not want to have to deal with it in the future?

Whatever the problem, it wasn’t your phones. Your iPhones are totally compatible. Since you say other ATT customers did not have the same issue, that to me suggests something specific with your account and/or how your lines are provisioned.

Really strange because as soon as we left the park all was fine.  Also, we have a 4th line for another daughter who was not with us Saturday, she did not have any issues.  Pretty positive it was not account related.

Hi ! We understand the importance of having cellular signal and being able to make calls and send/receive text message while outdoors, we are here to help with your service concerns!

We did check the condition of your area towers, all of them are active with 4G signal except one which is under maintenance. The planned restoral date is 10/11/2022, please keep in mind it may take longer for the tower to be fixed.

Here are fixes that may help in the meantime:

  1. Reset your network settings to refresh your connection to our active towers. Please keep in mind that this will delete all network settings, returning them to factory defaults.
  2. Reinsert your SIM Card to help reset your device.
  3. Ensure that your 4G LTE cellular signal is turned on and your Wi-Fi is turned off while outdoors. This will help with connection concerns.
  4. Make sure your software’s up to date: Go to att.com/softwareupdates.
  5. Turn off call forwarding. Press #21# on your phone and then the Call, Send, Talk, or Receiver key. Also, turn off airplane mode. Most phones show an airplane icon when airplane mode is on.
  6. Try our helpful troubleshoot & resolve tool to help fix your call & message concerns. You'll need to sign in to get personalized help.

Let us know if this helps! Thank you for posting on the AT&T Community Forums!

I have no solution to this issue but I just experienced the same thing. It caused so many issues for my visit ! Luckily I took screenshots of our passes so we were able to get in but meeting up with our group was impossible !!

Hello! I just experienced the same issue at Busch Garden, VA. Me and a friend using ATT were not able to make/receive phone calls or get the Internet. Yet my other friends' phones on different carriers worked just fine. It caused a lot of inconvenience to us!

Thank you for that information, @vicky0820.

Did the steps above help? These are our basic troubleshooting steps that are known to help with connectivity concerns. You may also want to check out our Wireless Support, go to Refresh your Connection, then click Sign In To Start

Another thing you can check for is your SIM card. Check for any damages. You can even try a SIM replacement to see if that helps with your connection concerns. You may get a new SIM at your local AT&T Store

Try this and let us know how it goes! If you are still experiencing poor signal, we can bring you in to a DM for further assistance.
