NO CELL SERVICE!

I am trying to run a business and my 3G cell service has been out since April 2. only in the 77009 area of Houston. It works fine once I get out of that area. I cannot get any calls or text. My customers cannot reach me. I am loosing business. Times are already hard enough without this. We have called AT&T and have been told "the tower is being repaired and will be fixed by the evening." The evening is what ever day we call.

AT&T, I NEED SOME HELP. EITHER GET THE PROBLEM FIXED OR SEND ME TWO LOANER PHONES THAT WILL WORK!

AT&T is closing down its 3-g service. 3-g service will be completely turned off in about a year. You need to upgrade your phone to an LTE-capable phone.
Yes, AT&T sells LTE flip phones.

According to AT&T website, the shut down of 3G is not going to happen until 2022.

And yet AT&T says itself it is actively repurposing 3-g Spectrum for 5G service.
The last day 3-g will work anywhere in the United States is February of 2022
However the last day to activate a 3-g only device was this February, 2020.

The expectation is that 3-g service will not work in many places in the United States a full year before the permanent shutdown.

3-g service right now operates on 850 and 1900 mhgz frequencies. If you have a phone that does not have both frequencies, or your local Tower does not emit both frequencies oh, you could find yourself without a 3-g connection.

AT&T has LTE phones available including Flip or bar phones. They frequently sell out quickly so if you find one either through AT&T, or Best Buy, grab them.

So, should I buy a 5G phone now, even with not all towers emitting 5G? I have read 5G does not have the coverage that 4G has. If I get away from a large city will 5G still give me service?

No.
You may not have usable 5G in your area for 2 to 5 years. I have no 5G available in the rural area where I live. But I do have devices that are capable of LTE service which is always what my phones are using.

This is just like when the first LTE phones came out. LTE is not available everywhere, the phones are expensive. The technology is still new.
But if you have a 3-g only device, it's old. AT&T has not sold a 3-g only device in several years.

Please keep in mind there are only a few devices that even have 5G service available on them. Apple has still not produced a 5G device. The currently available flip and bar phones do not have 5G

I think I understand. My next question is, would be Kyocera Dura Force Pro 2 be a good fit as a rugged phone with the correct 4G LTE?

Yes. Add if AT&T is out of stock you may find one at Best Buy. That's a solid phone and should last you many years.

Thank you very much for all of your help. I do wish one of the 15 people we spoke with Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday would have explained this problem to me. Instead, they kept saying my problem would be fixed soon. I may come back and ask you more questions!

All carriers are overwhelmed, understaffed, and may not actually be able to check on what your problem truly is.
I'm trying to be understanding when services go out (they have) and just glad we are all healthy.

Well Liz, I got a new Galaxy phone. Same thing. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I'm at a loss of what to do. I had a friend come by with a different Galaxy phone and it also had the same problem. I just wish AT&T come tell me what is going on. Dealing with the Covid-19 and businesses being shut down is bad but not having cell service, I can't get calls if anyone needed my service!

Please help!

I have a Samsung S8 that will not work at my office located in 77009. When I drive 5 miles down the road it will work. ATT claims tower issues. REALLY?? for over 10+ days!!!

I have a business phone that I purchased from ATT and IT DOES NOT WORK! Why would a company sell a product and then not provide the service to support it?

@frustratedttacustomer your phone DOES work. your office is not wothin a coverage area. If you can connect to office wifi, use wifi calling.

At&t’s product is cell service, and its upto you to determine if at&t is the right carrier. at&t does not make phones. They are the product of Apple, Samsung, LG, etc. warranty is provided by most manufactures for 1 year. After warranty expires, you are on your own or need to have insurance.

@lizdance40 sorry to tell you, but my phone will NOT receive nor send any calls. I've tried what you suggested and it still does NOT work. The location is east of I-45 in 77009.

Could you please explain why the business flip phone will not work?

@frustratedttacustomer

‘business flip phone’ doesnt mean much. When did it start? make and model? how old? Is the phone broken, is sim card faulty?

Liz, it has no bars. When I press "send" I get a message "emergence calls only" or something like that.

I did get a new sim card. My phone works fine once I get about 5-10 miles away.

@sansungsuks this is weird because the error your getting usually means a defective sim or service has been shut off

Okay Liz, thanks. I'll check with Verizon. Been with AT&T for years and very few issues until 2 weeks ago. Now they can't get this fixed.
