LTE SIM vs 5G SIM????

I purchased an iPhone 12 Pro Max last week and have thus far not seen any indication of a 5G network.  I have driven across 2 states, and several major Metropolitan areas including Baton Rouge, Shreveport, Little Rock all without any 5G connection.  I also do not have any 5G options in my phone settings under cellular, only the options to choose 4G and LTE.  Does the SIM card make a difference?  Could I have a 4G LTE SIM card and not a 5G SIM card?

You need to subscribe to one of the new unlimited plans that offer 5G. I have an iPhone 12 with a new SIM card installed by AT&T but I do not have one of the qualifying unlimited plans so my phone displays only 4G and LTE.

Is it one of the unlimited plans that offers 5G? If it is, then call AT&T or go to a Corporate Store and have them look at your account.

Not just an unlimited plan, one of the current unlimited plans. Even though I believe they are adding 5G to older unlimited plans, I don’t think they have done so yet. In any event, yes, you do also need a 5G SIM card.

Both of you were correct!!! Thank you so much, I went to myAT&T app and upgraded my plan to a 5G unlimited plan.  If only the employees at the AT&T store knew this!  I even asked them if I needed to get a special SIM or Plan to get 5G, and they said no, even after I pointed out the lack of 5G options on my device settings, they replied, “it’s because of the signal inside this building.”  I hate AT&T and only use them because my company gets a huge discount.  I guess you get what you pay for
