iPhone 12 Extremely Slow 5Ge

I have an iPhone 12.  In some places, it picks up 5G or 5Ge.  When it does, it is ALWAYS extraordinarily SLOW.  Many apps "fail" and say "not connected to the internet"; others eventually get data  I reset all the network settings and selected "LTE" in cellular data settings (no effect - still says "5Ge" in the top).

Hello @DEG9212720190, we'd love to help with your data speeds.

Let's try to reset your connection:

  1. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
  2. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
  3. Press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

Make sure you’re on the best plan:

If you regularly go over your plan’s data limit, consider changing your plan to one of our new unlimited extra plan. Not having the right plan can slow down your data based on how much data you use monthly.

I have the exact same issue in Dalton GA.  I have talked to no fewer than 6 cust service reps and we come back to the same place - 'we don't know'

I have tried that [plus new sim card] but the issue here is NOT my phone - it is the very specific area I live and work.

Hello @tslooper, we understand the importance of having a good connection.

You can use our address lookup feature to find out if AT&T 5G network covers your area. Pick your talk, text, and data preferences, then enter your address. On the results screen, look for the “Coverage Info” and “Map” options in the top right corner to drill down and see whether your address is covered.

Sometimes, your wireless device or its settings can cause connectivity issues. Make sure you have your device handy and try this:

  1. Go to our troubleshooting tool.
  2. Select your phone brand and model.
  3. Choose the option in Connections that's giving you trouble (for example: Internet or Phone calls).
  4. Follow the prompts to fix your issue.

We consistently make changes so you get the best possible wireless service. These changes enhance coverage, increase data speeds, reduce dropped calls, and improve service quality. Learn how we're improving our network.

If you are still experiencing disruptions, meet us back here with the results of the troubleshooting tool, and we'll be happy to provide additional troubleshooting options. Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums.

Ive done more research than a human should. When I signed up for 5G in 2020 it was really great!! I’ve not moved. Same house, same office. There is a clear issue with a tower or two on zip code 30720.

One of the downsides of 5G is that as it becomes more popular, the tower sites get saturated with users which affects speeds. I rarely use 5G and stick to LTE, which has plenty enough speed for us, at least in our area.

Now I get the bandwidth issue. It’s odd that surrounding towers do not seem bogged down to me.

It all depends on which tower your phone connects to, whether it's a shared tower, signal propagation, signal strength, etc etc etc.

I hear you.  It just amazes me that [again, I have not moved] we went from 40-100mbps a year ago to literally 0.16-6mbps these days and it really started about May of this year.  I truly think it os more of a tower type issue over other issues.

Hi , we are here to address your low cellular signal concern!

We did go ahead and check the condition of your surrounding towers, there are three degraded towers near you. The estimated restoral time is 8/28/2022, please keep in mind that in some instances it may take longer for service restoration.

In the meantime we recommend enabling LTE/4G as our ACE @OttoPylot suggested. Also, reset your network settings to refresh your connection to our other active towers. You'll need to enter your device type for personalized steps. Lastly, check for outages here using your full address under wireless to stay updated.

We hope this helps! Let us know if you have any additional questions!
