Cell service weak
I have been an AT&T customer for over 16 years when I switched from Sprint due to lack of coverage in Maine. Coverage at our house has always been “weaker.” But in the past year coverage has gone from weak to at times non-existent.
We do not have landlines (neither cable nor phone) to our house so switching to WiFi is not an option.
I teach and this spring needed to teach virtually. At first, I had to drive to a nearby school to use their WiFi, then near the end of the school year I received a Verizon Hotspot that works well enough to have Zoom calls (though I still can’t share my screen.)
There are days when I leave my house in the afternoon for errands, drive 5 miles into town, and receive hundreds of missed emails and many missed messages and calls.
Other locals are also complaining about the service (from our Facebook group). One said she contacted AT&T and was told the nearest tower was “degraded.” What does this mean? Will it be fixed soon?
I like be a loyal customer and I don’t like change. But Verizon seems to be a bit more reliable. And even if it costs more, The service has to work right? Otherwise, what is the point? We have 4 (soon to be 5) phone with AT&T and one iPad. And we have the “unlimited” plan. Cell service and Internet service runs us over $350 a month.
Any guidance would be useful. But please don’t tell me to use WiFi calling or to toggle airplane mode. I’m pretty much over that as a fix... we currently toggle between 4G and LTE to “jump start” the connection but it hasn’t been working lately.
We are ready to try Verizon or USCellular. Both seem to have better service. But before we switch, I want to know if there is a possibility that the “degraded tower” will be fixed in the next month.
Thank you. I appreciate anything you can tell us.
