Can not make any calls in or out. Works after reboot. Issues for months. Called support many times.

I have been having an issue making and receiving calls.  The issue has been going on for months and I have talked with support and advanced support many times.  About once a week my phone will not make or receive any calls.  I get an error sometimes that says "Your phone's not registered on a network, so you can only make emergency calls".  I only get this message sometimes.  If I reboot the phone it works again for a few days.  Sometimes when I reboot it still doesn't work with no error message.  I have been a customer for many years with the same number.  I have a Samsung s22 that's a year old.   The phone also has the issue while connected to wifi or the mobile network.  When i push the call button it hangs up instantly and when someone calls me it goes to voicemail and says the mailbox isn't setup.  I get voicemail fine when the issue isn't happening.

So are you in a poor coverage area? Or is the phone defective? Test the theory.

Are there people around you using AT&T who have the same problem? If yes then you're in a poor coverage area even if it used to be a great coverage area.

If everyone around you doesn't have the same problem and they're using AT&T as well, is it a defective phone or Sim.

Test this by switching your SIM card into a different compatible AT&T phone. If the problem follows the SIM card then maybe it's a defective SIM card. But if your phone doesn't work well with somebody else's AT&T SIM card who usually has great service then there's a problem with your phone.

If the phone is defective, you had one year from date of purchase to request a warranty replacement. If you were out of warranty you would have to use insurance or have the phone repaired or replaced at your own expense.

The phone does this at multiple locations around the state. It also does this on wifi with wifi calling turned on. I can go get a new Sim from at&t. Haven't tried that yet. My wife's phone works when mine isn't and she is standing next to me so I don't believe it's a coverage issue. I will go get a new Sim today. Thanks

Have you swapped SIM cards with your wife? If her phone is working consistently and you swap SIM cards and your phone is still whacked and then hers won't work properly then you have your answer it's a bad phone

We definitely want to look into why your phone is unable to maintain its connection to our network, zuess253.

We want to advise that @formerlyknownas provided great troubleshooting tips that can help determine what's causing your experience with your device so that you can resolve it right away.

After you've replaced your SIM card, let us know how it goes. If your experience persists, that can be an indication that it's occurring as a result of something internal in the phone.

If you think it's time to replace the phone you may want to consider the information under Check your device warranty at Exchange a device under warranty. Here, you will learn how to exchange new, AT&T Certified Pre-Owned, or AT&T Certified Restored devices that are still under warranty.

You can even confirm that your device is covered by one of our protection plans at File a mobile device protection claim. Also, if you're wondering what choices you have to upgrade your phone, we invite you to follow the steps under Get your upgrade in order to check your upgrade eligibility and options.

Make sure to let us know about whether your device can successfully maintain a connection after replacing your SIM card. We want to provide a definite resolution for you.

Had a new SIM installed this morning.  I will report back in a few weeks with results.  Thanks everyone for the help.

Phone worked great until today. Same exact issues. Cannot make or receive any calls on network or wifi. Text and internet are fine on cell networks. No errors on screen.

Phone has been working great.  Only had the issue the one time which I posted here for reference.  The SIM card was apparently the issue.  Thanks for all the help.
