iMessage is a service provided by Apple. The message will not convert to SMS as a fall back in this instance.

Here is the latest from our experts. Our $2/day might be the best option. It provides unlimited talk & text and only is charged on days you use those services. You can also add data to the plan if desired. Data option is $1 for 100MB per day only on the days it's used.

 I think the $2 plan will be good enough for day to day use.
As I am on this plan for so many years.Back to the time when Gophone only works in USA only.
Now they got roaming in Canada and Mexico ,I am using the $60 plan most of the time.
