use my prepaid cell phone as a hotspot

I changed my att prepaid service to the 65$ UNLIMITED MONTHLY PLAN YET I CANNOT

USE my cell phone as a hot spot. is there a time lag before I can use it? my first plan was 30$/mo with 5GB data but I change it to the unlimited DATA for 65$/ mo. please help. I need to use the cell phone as a hotspot for my laptop

The $65 plan does not include hotspot but you can buy hotspot as an add-on.

AT&T prices plans with data according to how likely they think the full data is going to be used.  The pricing on the Unlimited plan is that they bet you will not use unlimited data.  If you have a HOTSPOT you are much more likely to use your data. Thus...

AT&T prevents the use of the hotspot unless your plan includes it.  The Unlimited Plus does (10 bucks more, but the amount is limited).  You can add on to Unlimited (but I'll bet it would be the same as Unlimited Plus in the long run).  Or you could drop to a non-unlimited plan, but the overall data cap includes your hotspot usage.

It’s only a feature of your phone if the plan supports it. You picked the one prepaid monthly plan that does not include hotspot. The $75 unlimited plan includes hotspot, the $65 plan doesn’t but as noted earlier, you can buy hotspot as an add-on.
