Unauthorized credit check even after asking not do so without ever providing SSN and with no result
I visited the AT&T store in Sunnyvale, CA and asked to switch from my GoPhone plan to a postpaid account and specifically asked to give me options to avoid a credit check. I informed the staff member that I was ready to pay a deposit too. He asked for my driver's license and tried to the switch my account but he said he wasn't able to do so because of "some reason" and asked me to call Customer Support instead. He also provided a generic SSN to provide to Customer Support when I call. Two days later, I find out that there's a hard pull on my Equifax from AT&T without me ever providing my SSN! And I still don't have a postpaid line either! Could AT&T please remove this unnecessary credit check from my Equifax?

This is NOT AT&T.
And by what magic did they check your credit without the essential social security number?

I googled about this a bit and found that only driver license information to locate a credit file and do a pull! Well, this it it for me. Bye bye AT&T. T-Mobile, here I come.

You should dispute incorrect information on your Equifax report with Equifax.
