PSA: AT&T only deducts $5 for autopay from the $50 prepaid plan
Hi all,
I wanted to call attention to something misleading that AT&T is doing, and I want to make sure that others aren't taken advantage of the same way that I was.
TLDR: AT&T only deducts $5 from the $50 Prepaid plan for auto-pay, NOT $10. If you are considering switching to their $50 plan, you will only be discounted $5 for using auto-pay.
Before you decide to choose the $50 AT&T Prepaid plan, know that AT&T may not honor their statements about the $10 discount for enabling auto-pay on your account. For all I know there is wording in the fine print, such as "despite advertising a $10 discount for auto-pay, AT&T will only provide a $5 discount."
Yesterday, I switched my plan from the older $45 plan to the new $50 plan, for the sole reason that I was supposed to be charged the same price for the two plans after my auto-pay discount. However, when the bill processed, I was charged $45 (pre-tax) for the plan, and my billing statement showed a discount of only $5 for auto-pay.

What your accusing is false advertising, which would be a HUGE no no. And I do not believe.
Your refill has taxes added ( $4 - $6) and discount deducted. What were you ACTUALLY charged once Auto pay kicked in? Did you read the information?
What it sounds like is your plan did not change. You’re still on the 6 gig plan.

I'm not referring to the taxes. I am referring to my pre-taxed amount. My bill explicitly shows a $5 discount for auto-pay on my $50 plan and a $45 charge before taxes.
Whether it is indeed false advertising or not, the fact remains the same that AT&T is communicating a $10 discount for auto-pay on the $50 plan, but is only giving a $5 discount.

I have also confirmed that I am on the new 8GB plan. My bill was for $45 (+ taxes) after a $5 discount for auto-pay, for a total of $50.

Then it’s a screw up. Call ATT.
(Which would have been my first move before blasting them for false ads on a plan that’s several months old, and everyone else is getting the right discount). 😒

Okay, that is fair. I will call them. I did not know it was a screw up. The only information I had was what they billed me vs what they communicated to me, and I wanted to help others like me who wanted to change plans to get more data for the same price.
