Prepaid SIM
I purchased a prepaid SIM kit at Wal-Mart and $40 prepaid service for use with my at&t compatible unlocked phone which I recently bought from Amazon expressly for the purpose of using while traveling in the US since my Canadian phone was not compatible. The phone make and model is Samsung Galaxy A13 5G SM A135U and I have double checked to ensure it is on AT&Ts list of compatible phones. I inserted the SIM and proceeded to the setup page, but at&t is not recognizing the IMEI when I complete that page and gives me an error message. I have checked and triple checked that the IMEI is correct. I can only use the phone at the hotel whe. I have data thru WiFi. My vacation is now half over. I can't call for help because the phone isn't working yet and the chat help just keeps sending me back to the registration/activation page. On my most recent attempt to activate I got the following error message:
GA701 : Oops, we hit a snag while activating your device. Come back later and try again.
I am beyond frustrated. Does anyone have any suggestions how to resolve?

Check the imei.

That error indicates it does not recognize the IMEI number as a compatible phone. Sometimes the error will occur even with valid phones so if the IMEI check says that they will mail you a SIM card rather than an incompatible phone you need a different IMEI to get past the activation process.

Hello jc5008, we're here to help with your unlocked Samsung Galaxy A13.
If you purchased an unlocked device from another retailer, please note, they are not optimized to work on AT&T’s network. This is important to remember when purchasing a non-branded, unlocked device and why you see different model numbers.
Let's make sure your device is compatible with AT&T’s Network. If it is not on the list, it may not work on our network. In instances like this, you’ll need to get a compatible device.
Feel free to reach back out if you have any other questions or concerns.
Thank you for reaching out to AT&T Community Forums!

Thanks so much @formerlyknownas .I tried the link you sent and it offers to send me a new SIM.
The only thing I can think of is that #$%@ Amazon sold me a &%$# locked phone as an unlocked one.
@ATTHelp
can you help me get my phone unlocked quickly? there's only a few days left of my vacation.

No one will be able to help you get the phone unlocked quickly. It won’t be unlocked until the requirements to unlock are met. That means 6 months of prepaid usage.

No that's not what it means. That error means it cannot identify the IMEI. It does not mean the phone is Carrier locked to AT&T or to a different service provider. It doesn't mean it's not carrier unlocked but that's not what that error means. You will need to activate your phone with a different IMEI that AT&T can recognize. After activation you will be able to change the IMEI to match your phone in your online prepaid account. If you have a friend with an AT&T phone who can loan it to you briefly to activate your service try that.
