New eSim not working on Samsung Fold4

I encountered a strange and frustrating problem. I signed up for a new Prepaid plan with a new phone #. Activated my new account and installed the eSim. Immediately, data and text began to work, but I was unable to make or receive calls. When calling out, it showed "Call ended" right away. When others calling in, they heard something like: "...The number you called has a voice box, but it has not been activated."

My Samsung Fold4 does have the latest software. With Support folks, we have tried all their troubleshooting steps, and also tried a new eSim. Nothing helped. Finally, went to AT&T store to try a physical SIM. It turned out the physical SIM worked just fine.

Is the eSim problem due to my phone or AT&T? Note, I have tried eSims from Mint and Tello, both on T-Mobile network, and they both worked as they should.

It sounds like your phone is not capable of voice over LTE on the AT&T network which is why data and text may work but phone calls cannot. You can check the IMEI to see if it is a compatible phone here.

Both IMIE and EID checked out OK and an eSim is recommended :-(

Hello hjf001, let's address your concerns with the eSIM and your Samsung Fold 4.

Your Samsung Fold 4 is compatible with AT&T's network. We would recommend that it may be a device issue with trying multiple eSIMs.

Feel free to reach back out if you have any further questions.

Carlton, not sure what you mean by device issue with trying multiple eSIMs.

My device initially had only AT&T eSIM installed, nothing else. It did NOT work.
A replacement AT&T eSIM was installed and the initial one removed. It did NOT work.
A physical AT&T SIM was installed and eSIM removed. It worked.
A Tello eSIM was then installed. It worked.
A Mint eSIM was also added. It worked.
I can switch back and forth of Tello and Mint eSIM and both eSIMs work just fine.
