UNLOCK REQUIREMENTS

  • Your device isn’t reported lost or stolen, or involved with fraud.
  • You must complete your contract or installment plan (including early termination fees). Or, pay off an installment plan early and then make another unlock request in 24 hours.
  • Your device isn’t active on another AT&T account.
  • If you upgraded early, wait 14 days to unlock your old device. Business customers wait 30 days.
  • Your service must be active for at least 60 days with no past due or unpaid balance.
  • AT&T PREPAID (formerly GoPhone®) devices must have at least 6 months of active service.
  • If you’re military, we’ll ask you to email your TCS or PCS (Temporary / permanent change of station) documents for eligibility. You won’t have to complete installment plans or contracts.
  • If you have a business-owned device, your company must authorize you to unlock it.
  •  Go here if your phone meets all the requirements
  •  https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/#/

AT&T reserves the right to deny any unlock request that it concludes would result in an abuse of this policy or is part of an effort to defraud AT&T or its customers. AT&T further reserves the right to alter this unlocking policy at its discretion without advance notice

The phone is brand new, just bought, so don't understand why she would have to do an installment or contract when she has a free unlimited minutes/data- working sim card through qlink wireless (free government program). I would think she wouldn't have to pay anything. She just needs the phone unlocked

She should not have bought a prepaid phone from ATT. A prepaid phone requires 6 months of usage on ATT prepaid service to unlock. The phone won’t be unlocked until that 6 month requirement is met.

Hi csorum37, we're here to help you with your AT&T PREPAID unlock phone inquiry.

As the ACE @sandblaster mentioned, a prepaid phone requires 6 months of usage on AT&T PREPAID service to unlock. The phone won’t be unlocked until that 6 month requirement is met.

@Ccumpton1  If you have the same issue as the original post then all you can do is use it on prepaid for 6 months before it gets unlocked.

I have 16 months of previous paid service. Is that not acceptable? Since I did cancel and transfer my number, I must transfer back and reinstate for 6 months type of thing? Or what? Just trying to clear this up. Tysm for responding btw.

If you bought a prepaid phone and used it on a postpaid account it doesn’t satisfy the 6 month requirement.

Hello Ccumpton1, we're here to help with your phone unlock inquiry.

You must complete the 6 months of paid usage with AT&T PREPAID. Make sure that you have met all the unlock eligibility requirements before submitting your request.

Your device:

  • Is an AT&T phone or device and isn’t active on another AT&T account.
  • Was paid in full when you bought it (not on an installment plan). You won’t have to wait 60 days to unlock it.
  • Has a paid-off installment plan.
    • Paid through your monthly bill: Submit your unlock request at the start of your next bill period.
    • Paid off early: The wireless number assigned to the device must be active for at least 60 days. Wait 48 hours after you make your final payment to submit your unlock request. Learn how to pay off your installment plan.
  • Doesn’t have a past-due account balance. Make a payment to bring your account current. It will take 24 hours for your payment to post.
  • Hasn’t been reported as lost, stolen, or involved with fraud.
  • Is an AT&T PREPAID phone that has had paid service for at least six months.

Make sure that if you made a payment to bring your account current that the payment has posted. We process and post online payments to your account immediately, but they can take up to 2 business days to show online in myAT&T.
