How to Re-activate/unblock a mobile phone number after getting a new SIM?

Hello,

I suspended my mobile phone number due to having lost my device. I then acquired a new SIM at an AT&T store, and I would like to re-activate my mobile phone number, but cannot seem to find out how.

What are the steps to re-activating a new SIM in a new device? Granted, I kept my old phone number. Is there a number to call? can it be done online? Do I have to go to a store?

Thank you!

Hi there @Andrewkny,  we'll be happy to help you get your number restored.

You can request wireless service to be restored for a lost device by following these three steps:

  • For AT&T Wireless
    1. Go to att.com/suspend, and log in.
    2. Select Reactivate next to the suspended device.
    3. Follow the prompts to reactivate it.
  • For AT&T prepaid
    1. Go to your AT&T prepaid account, and sign in.
    2. Select My device and then Report a lost or stolen device.
    3. Select Report Device Found.

Please let us how this goes, or if you get any error messages. We'll be able to look into this further from there.

Ideally, you should have had the new SIM card set up with your prepaid phone number at the store where you replaced your sim card.  You could have had suspension reversed at that time

I have a joint account with a family member. I got the new SIM for them and did not have the device they wanted to use the SIM on at the time that I got the new SIM card. That's why I did not reverse the suspension then.

Does that mean I have to go back to a store? Or are there other options?
