How do I keep my prepaid balance from expiring?

I have a balance on my prepaid account. Each month my $30 payment has been coming out of this balance. However, I just noticed that there is an expiration date on my balance which is over $100. How do I avoid losing the money I prepaid?

You extend your expiration date by refilling your account.

Adding money to the balance extends the expiration date from the date of the refill per those rules:

$10-$24 extends the expiration date 30 days

$25-$99 extends the expiration date 90 days

$100 or higher extends the expiration date one year

In in some cases if you already have a large balance, you can call and ask them to extend your expiration date. No guarantee they will do that but if you get a sympathetic agent, they might.

Thank you @sandblaster for reminding me that a few months ago that's what AT&T did: the expiration date was extended to October 19, 2022, because I was out of the country. This month, when I saw that the payment due date and the balance expiration date were not the same, I was confused. Now I do remember that the expiration date had been extended so I did not have to worry about the balance expiring when I could not access my account online from outside the U.S.A. Thank you for your reply.
