Hi,
I no longer need my GoPhone, how do I cancel and deactivate my account to ensure that I don't get billed any more?
Thanks,

jlkeefer11,
Hi, since you think that your GOphone account is no longer needed, you may contact customer service for account cancellation. Since this is only a Pay as you go account, make sure that the auto refill is already deactivated in that way you can be sure that there will be no future charges on your account. Hope this help. 🙂

Welcome to AT&T Community Forums @ jlkeefer11!
I’m happy you reached out to us; I would love to assist you with your GoPhone cancellation!
Since you are not in a contract all you would have to do is let the current balance run out. However, if you have auto renew or AutoPay we would have to disable it. No need to worry this process is very simple!
First you will need to log into your myAT&T account. At the top of the page select Home, from there click on Packages. After this please select Manage Auto Renew; follow the prompts until you can choose Cancel Auto Renew.
If you need to turn of AutoPay, you will also need to log into your myAT&T account. At the top of the page select Billing, Usage, Payments, and then Manage AutoPay. From there, select Discontinue Autopay, and confirm Yes, Discontinue.
I hope you found this helpful, and if you have any further questions feel free to contact us. We are here to help!

im not on auto refill. i have credit on my account though. the rep told me there's no way that they can disconnect a go phone account and to just throw out the sim card. how true this is i dunno. maybe someone could chime in. as it would be nice to have the line disconnected so people that call the number won't think that your still taking calls and VM'S on that line..
kudos

Hello there @ganto2014
I can definitely understand wanting the line made inactive, so your callers know you are not available at this number. With a balance on the account, your line will stay active until it reaches zero or expires.
Account balance amounts have an expiration timeframe built in based on the monetary value. The balance expiration windows are as follows:
As of this moment, there is no way of turning off the number completely, before the balance or the expiration date ends. However, I do have a suggestion. You could record a voicemail greeting letting people know the number is no longer in service; or referring them to other means on which to reach you. This might be enough for the caller to know there won’t be an answer.
I hope this answers your question, and thank you for contacting AT&T. Have a fantastic week!

Apparently, I'm not looking at the right place. I'm cancelling my AT&T prepaid phone. I'm doing it by cancelling my auto-pay.
I have looked and looked, and I do not find "Manage My Account", nor "Packages". Thus, I cannot find any "Auto Renew". So, I assume that I do not have that option and can quit my account by turning off Autopay, which I have done. It would be nice if the "Cancel" information would be updated on the website, and that option given to the public when they log on to the home page.
It's almost like you think not one would ever consider cancelling their account.
I've considered it for a long time, since the phone does not live up to my expectations, but I did buy a cheap ZTE pbhone, which I do not recommend to anyone. The signal is poor, always less than what an acquaintance has when standing side by side.
