How do I associate a new prepaid phone IMEI to existing prepaid account

I bought an att prepaid phone kit. I just needed the phone so I used the phone with my existing prepaid sim and prepaid account. 6 months go by and I request the phone to be unlocked. The request was denied and said it it hadn’t been active for 6 months. I thought OK maybe I need to wait a little longer. 6 more months go by and I try again and got the same message. I go into my account, my device, update device, put in the new device IMEI but it says error you can only put in an new IMEI.  So at this point I don’t know what I can do to link this phone so I can unlock it. It’s been a year. Not sure what I did not do right at the beginning.

Thanks,

D. Glenn

The simplest answer is it hasn't been 6 months yet.  By the way if there were any breaks in service the clock starts over.

If you want to call AT&T they may be able to tell you the date that your current phone was activated on your account. I suspected it will not show its been 6 months according to AT&T activation server.

If none of this makes any sense you're going to have to talk to AT&T Advanced Tech Support to verify how long your phone has been active on AT&T and request they pushed through the unlock

@lizdance40 it for sure has been more than 6 months as I have had and used the phone for two years now and have done two requests, the last being 6 months from the first. There’s no way it hasn’t been. All I can think of is somehow  the phone is not linked to my account. If I go to devices on my account it does not show a device.
