Do I Lose Money If I Switch Plans?

I am presently on .10/min prepaid plan with texts blocked and no data since it is a smartphone. I just bought a much nicer smartphone and am considering going to the $40, with auto pay, plan. I usually have been putting in $100 every 7 months or so and have $39 left until I have to refill again, I am not a chatty person. If I understand correctly, I will lose the $39 if I switch plans now, so I guess I am going to have to talk up $39 worth before I switch. Am I correct in my thoughts? Thanks.

No, you would not lose that $39 unless or until it expires. It should get used to pay for the $40 plan provided you add money to your account, though I'm not sure how setting up autopay effects that. Also, I don't think you can add just $1. Maybe you add enough to pay for the first month ($45 without autopay), then set up autopay next month.

There will be taxes charged on the plan also.  The $40 plan will probably cost closer to $45 with taxes.
