AT&T prepaid plan questions about upgrading the phone
I have a wireless phone & number provided by AT&T. Thinking about upgrading phone and checked the phones suggested on my AT&T plan website. Found one I am (or was) interested in. Check to see if # is portable. And it says NO. Excuse me??? Why could I not port an AT&T phone's # to another AT&T phone????

As a prepaid customer you want to purchase the phone at full price and move your Sim card from the old phone to the new phone.
AT&T website frequently does not help prepaid customers order a phone without also ordering a plan. If you feel like you’re hitting the wall order your phone from Best Buy.

Because you already have a number on ATT. Porting is for moving your number to a different carrier. To move your number to a different phone, just move the SIM card.
