HBO MAX can't verify my subscription

Hi, I received an email from AT&T stating I am eligible for an HBO Max subscription at no extra charge due to having at AT&T Unlimited Plus wireless plan however when I try logging in to the HBO Max app it's telling me that it can't verify my subscription? Can you help please? Thank you

Spoke with AT&T and they provided a solution which resolved the "Cannot verify subscription" for me. Read below.

I have Internet1000 and got the same error message ("Cannot verify subscription"). In addition, I noticed that when I login to MyATT it says on the HBO Max tile: Start your Free 30 Day Trial using promo code (some number).

So I called AT&T and at first they told me to sign up for an HBO Max account using the promo code and that I would not be charged after 30 days. I got suspicious when I had to enter credit card details and insisted with the representative from AT&T on the phone that I am 100% certain that HBO Max will charge my credit card after the 30 day trail period and that I am supposed to login with my AT&T user id.

The rep then asked me which user id I am using which I was certain was the right one. She then explained to me that this user id is linked to my wireless plan which does not have HBO Max included. However, when I signed up for internet, a second account was created and linked to my primary (wireless) account.

Now the process to untangle this is as follows:

1. Go to att.net, click login, remove your login, click Forgot User Id, enter email

2. Receive a text message with all of your user ids (I apparently had three of them)

3. Try logging in with every single user id, you may have to reset the passwords (if you cannot reset the password, call them an request a temporary passcode send to you)

4. Once you get in with your alternative user id(s) check the HBO Max tile, for me it now said HBO Max is included with your Internet 1000.

5. Login to HBO Max using this user id

Hope this works for you folks!

I’m dealing with same (Edited as per community guidelines) and so frustrated! I’ve been dealing with AT&T on this for 3 days! I have tried the whole resetting of my passwords (so many times I could scream!), checking each and EVERY user ID, every single browser on every single computer and tablet and phone we own. This is ridiculous! I am going to call them and ask them how they are going to compensate me for this.

@Kmileski - what contract with them gives you free HBO Max? Internet or Wireless? Were you able to login with the account that relates to that particular contract ID? What does the HBO Max tile on the MyATT page say for you?

I have AT&T Wireless and my service gives me HBO Max. The HBO Max tile says I get 30 days free. When I look at my service and what it includes, it DOES include HBO Max. I know it includes HBO Max. I have reset my passwords and User IDs NUMEROUS times per the AT&T helplines when I call. I found a super old post that had a link to the AT&T TV Now site and I created an account there and I can now login. If any of you that have wireless can't log into the HBO Max site, Set yourself up on the AT&T Now website/app and you will be able to get into HBO Max. When you call AT&T Wireless, ask them about this. It's what worked for me and it will probably work for you. Not one person in four days and many hours via phone told me about this. I don't think they even know about it!

Sounds like we have a solution for both HBO Max with Internet 1000 and with Wireless now. Thanks for sharing @Kmileski!

The a(Edited per community guidelines)olute worst. I just got charged by HBO Max because the "solution" I was given last month (after a whole day on the phone/chat) was to give me a "trial code" (even though HBO Max is clearly supposed to be part of my AT&T service). "We need your card number, but this will be resolved before it gets charged in July." Total (Edited per community guidelines).

I've once again been on the phone for hours with HBO and AT&T with operators who are nice enough, but act like they have never heard of my curious situation... and after reading these comments, clearly that is not the case.

@JDIsip yup, they told me exactly the same initially. From my post above:

So I called AT&T and at first they told me to sign up for an HBO Max account using the promo code and that I would not be charged after 30 days. I got suspicious when I had to enter credit card details and insisted with the representative from AT&T on the phone that I am 100% certain that HBO Max will charge my credit card after the 30 day trail period and that I am supposed to login with my AT&T user id.

Have you tried what I suggested instead? If HBO Max is included with your contract, you definitely have to use your AT&T login (just the right one - read my post above)  and not create a new HBO Max account!

THANKS whoami24!!! Your solution worked for me

I'm a wireless customer with Unlimited Plus... I had to create a AT&T TV Now ID to log in: https://www.atttvnow.com/accounts/select-plan. It's that ID that I had to use on the HBO Max website. It had me text HABITS to a number which verified my phone number so that I could sign in. The rest is straightforward.

whoami24s method worked for me. I went to the atttvnow.com link above and clicked the blue banner reading att unlimited wireless customers click here. I had to text a code word and was given a new screen which let me choose free hbo max. Then they had me create an account or use an existing. CREATE A NEW ONE. Then I was able to log into HBOMAX.

thank you to whoami24 and everyone on this forum. This literally took me all day to figure out!

If you have a qualifying plan - before you can sign onto HBO Max, you need to first activate it for your account.

Step 1: Go to www.attTVNow.com and click the Start Streaming button on the top right of the web page.

Step 2: Once the page updates you will see several banners appear at the top. Select the top one in blue which says "... Let's verify your number."

Step 3: You will next see on the page an instruction to grab your cell phone and text the word shown to 2885.

Step 4: Almost done. You will create a new account ID for HBO Max. I used the same account info as my ATT access.

THEN you can finally log into the App using the link to access through your provider.

Good luck.

It's a shame AT&T doesn't provide a simple instruction for their users. I suppose it keeps with their motto - AT&T: If it doesn't frustrate and inconvenience our customers then it isn't worth doing!
