HBO Max access for others on my account?

Hello AT&T community -

Maybe you’ve figured this one out?

I’m lucky that I can access HBOMax from my AT&T account - no problem. But I have 3 other family members on my account, and since we switched to Unlimited Elite last week, they each received a text telling them they have access to HBO Max now. However they don’t have their own logon id to my cell phone plan, and I can’t imagine AT&T wants me to share my AT&T id - that is a security issue. And if I create unique ids for them, they would have access to change our phone plans etc.

Doesn’t seem ideal. There must be a proper workaround. Can anyone share??

Thank you!!

We're here to help bring clarity with your HBO Max access @dburkert.

HBO Max included with the Unlimited Elite plan is for one HBO Max login per account, regardless of the number of lines signed up for the Unlimited Elite plan.

Within that account, you're able to create up to 5 different profiles per account.

HBO Max is limited to 3 concurrent streams per account.

  • Meaning you would be limited to 3 streams at any time.

We hope this helps.

Thank you, Vincent.

This required us to create a secondary ID for our son, who we didn’t want to necessarily have access to our wireless account, but it was the only way to grant him access to HBO Max without giving him  his father’s account credentials. Not ideal.

Since each line on the primary account has a choice to pay for HBOMax or not, it would’ve been nice to also separately figure out a way to grant them access.

I understand it’s a new feature - some feedback to the people who want to know.

You're very welcome, @dburkert

We're glad to hear you were able to create a secondary ID and your son is now able to enjoy HBO Max. We appreciate you taking the time to share the solution and provide valuable feedback.

You're always welcomed back to create new content and share what you know here in AT&T Community Forums. Take care!

How do I set up secondary line do I don’t have to give out my password?

My big problem with the secondary accounts (or authorized user accounts) is that they have full access to the account and can make changes.  I really don't want that option for my kids as they would be able to randomly upgrade phones, change plan settings, etc.

Being able to create an account that they can access this type of content without having full access to the primary account would be ideal.

Is it possible to set up accounts for family members with Unlimited Elite plans that DO NOT HAVE full billing and plan modification access? This is a huge security and privacy hole, not to mention that if someone mistakenly clicks on wrong things, AT&T might not get paid on time.

Not ideal at all. When you say each extra phone line gets it’s own HBO Max subscription I would assume it means another HBO Max account and not just another profile within the same account.

When you create the seperate AT&T login credentials, anyone using that new login info would have access to the whole AT&T along with every other phone/computer line on the AT&T account. Defeats the purpose of having a password if someone can use a different password to make changes to your account.

Seems pretty clear that “everyone” on the Family AT&T unlimited plus plan DOES NOT get HBO max access, but rather, one person gets access and is allowed to stream up to 3 multiple streams. Thus it makes no sense to pay more to get HBO max access on those other lines. I have a plan with 5 people “all with HBO max” yet, 5 people can’t stream, only 3.

I don't want to share my p0rny viewing history with my m'f'n GRAMMA! Each of us have the unlimited elite plan, how do we each get separate HBO Max logins. What a load of false advertising. Charging extra for something and not giving it to us. Hmmm, I smell a (Edited per community guidelines) laaaawwwwsuuuuuuit!

AT&T has now added a $2.50 per line charge for "each line that has Max", but, this is complete (Edited per community guidelines) since each line DOES NOT have Max. ONE line gets you a single Max service with up to 3 simultaneous streams for $2.50 more per month. THREE lines gets you a single Max service with up to 3 simultaneous streams for $7.50 more per month. SIX lines gets you a single Max service with up to 3 simultaneous streams for $15 more per month (I can sign up for Max myself for that price).

I have SIX lines but each clearly doesn't have their own Max account nor service and all six cannot even stream Max at the same time. So WHY am I paying more PER line when the service is NOT per line?
