Landline Not working - HELP!

I hear Dial-Tone AND a 'Voice' - ("if you'd like to make a call ..."). I press 'a' (singular) number to dial -it goes Right Back to Dial-Tone & Voice, I can Not Call Out. Callers 'In', receive a 'Busy-Signal'. No Cell Phone & I can't call AT&T Customer Service - ONLY EMAIL! ... [email scrubbed]

WHAT DO I DO ???

Hello @ManintheMoon, we hear you and we understand how important is to be connected to people around. Let's fix it together.

We recommend you follow troubleshoot home phone issue to get the help you needed.

If your issue occurs on more than one phone, you can perform outside testing to find out if the issue is in your home or with the AT&T network.

  1. Locate the Telephone Network Interface. It’s usually located on the back or side of the house.
  2. Use a screwdriver to open the box. Look for a phone jack labeled customer access jack.
  3. Unplug the short telephone cord and plug in your corded phone.
  4. See if the problem still exists. If you:
    • Don’t have a clear dial tone: The problem is with the AT&T network. You’ll have to submit a repair ticket online at http://sm.att.com/c3d49b15 or call us. Be sure to tell the repair specialist about the troubleshooting steps you have taken.
    • Do have a clear dial tone: The problem is inside your home, and you should check for inside issues.
  5. Unplug the corded phone and replace the short telephone cord. Make sure you close and tighten the Telephone Network Interface cover.

Let us know if this information helps!

Thank You for Responding! (I should have mentioned) Before I found this Forum - I explored the AT&T website (of course) . . .

1) the A.I. Chat-bot doesn't ask the right questions/options & is not a 'Real Person' that can understand 'Circumstance'.

2) I went to the page that has the info. you mentioned above > I created/requested a (Work-Order?/Repair) 'Ticket' (last week) - it advised a Technician would arrive at my house at 8-PM. Seems like an Automated Response that No One is looking at due to other customers commenting on the (Mysterious) 8 - 'P. M.' appointment time & a 'No-Show' from the Technician (both to 'me' & other customers). . . useless

3) There is No 'Outside Box' (Network Interface) - old home, built in the '60's, has a line coming into the Garage to a 'Hub' (pictured below) & No 'Jack' to plug a phone into to Test. I have Two Phones on the same line - they Both react the Same (Dial Tone & 'Voice'), seems the 'issue' is the 'Outside Line'.

** (again) No Cell Phone (& No landline at the moment), Only Internet (email & 'this Forum') connection to the outside world.

*** an 'Oxymoron' (if you will) on the AT&T website: "If you're having trouble with your Phone - 'call us' at 1-800- . . . " - ummmm, HOW?

**** Thinking of trying a visit to an AT&T 'Store' - can 'they' schedule a Technician visit?

any suggestions would be GREATLY Appreciated !!!

This probably won't be the problem, but those two hex looking bolts above the wires on the lower block those are carbon protectors, you could unscrew them to see if that clears the problem. If not screw them back in, they're to protect against power surges like lightening.

Nawh, I (fully) unscrewed both ... didn't work/help/solve the problem - but Thank You for the suggestion!

NOPE! - the DM from ATT'Help'(?) - Only suggested that I 'CALL' Tech support, didn't offer a Tech. Dispatch . . . (what a Joke!)

If you aren't getting the help needed through the normal channels, file an FCC complaint. Those go to the office of the president and usually get action in a day or two.
