Cannot create account on digital landline

My 89 yo mother has a digital landline. She does not get texts. ATT Customer Service said in order for her to create an account on line they need to text her a code to her phone. They cannot email it. How can we create an account for her so she can fix the number of rings from 4 -6?

Hello @Frances1013, we saw your post and would like to help you and your mother get this sorted so that we can modify these incoming call settings.

To do so we may still need a bit more information to point you in the correct direction. Please clarify for us a bit more about the nature of your mother's account:

  • You mentioned your mother has a digital landline, but no account? Is your mother's equipment previously from another service provider? If the service is operational, an account should already be linked to your mother's digital phone number.

If you are your mother's care taker or Power of Attorney (POA), we would recommend you using your contact information to manage her account if another phone number is not accessible. To be officially recognized as a Power of Attorney, please email with official documentation proving POA, and allow up to 2 business days for the status to update. Alternatively you can mail the documentation to:

AT&T Services Inc.
P.O. Box 6247
San Antonio, TX 78209

However, up to seven days must be provided for processing by mail.

If you are indeed trying to set up your mother's digital phone on a new account, you may need to reach back out over the phone at 1-800-288-2020 with your mother present and consenting to set this up using your phone number as a primary contact. Your mother will still be able to use the digital phone number to reference and authenticate the account in the future, but critical text messages and push notifications would be directed towards you.

Once the account is set up you can take a look at these steps on how to Change the number of rings before voicemail answers. You will need to log in to your mother's account using the myAT&T app, which can be accessed via a mobile app or web browser.

Please let us know if this information was helpful and what the current status of your mother's account is, and it would be our pleasure to help further. Thank you for reaching out to the AT&T Community Forums!
