Trying to call AT&T customer service on phone

The automated system is so jacked up.  Got cut off twice then transfer to black hole 3rd time.  Last time I got customer service in the Phillipines that I could barely understand.  I was after home phone land line but can't sign up for it on the website; why?

In order to proceed, with your Landline inquiry you would have to check the landline availability in your area, and then you can pick a plan that works best for you.

 

From there, you will have to contact customer support via 800-288-2020 and ask to set up new service.

Can I choose the phone number for landline?  Also, a recent number disconnected within my family, can I request a specific phone number?

The link you provided above "Check the landline availability in your area" takes me to a page that there is no option to check a specific address for availability like it used to be.  Where is the availability checker located at?
