Change Autopay to a Saved Credit Card?

I currently have autopay to a checking account. I added a credit card into my information, but it isn't saving the changes when I ask it to charge the credit card for autopay in the future. Help!

Hi there, @ClassyLady. We understand that you are unable to save or change the new payment method that you need to add to your account.  We can help with that.

To make sure that you are following the correct steps, please use this guide:

  1. Go to myAT&T settings. Sign in, if asked.
  2. Scroll to Payments.
  3. Choose Stored payment methods, then select:
    • Edit to update a stored payment method. Enter your details and select Save changes.
    • Delete to remove a stored payment method. Select OK to confirm removal.
    • Add a new payment method and choose Add a bank account or Add a credit or debit card. Follow the prompts to finish up.

If the payment method is still not saving, then you may want to clear the cache, of the browser that you are using.  This article has the steps for the most common browsers that are being used to do.

Also, we want to make sure that the accepted payment method are being  reviewed. Those payment methods are:

  • Debit or credit cards (Mastercard®, Visa®, American Express® Card, Discover® Card, JCB, and Diners Club)
  • Apple Pay
  • PayWithMyBank (online banking – not all banks participate)
  • Checking or savings accounts
  • AT&T promotional gift cards
  • BitPay
  • Mastercard® Click to Pay

Please let us know if youa re able to save the new payment method. If you are still unable to save the payment method, then we will have to go through and manually add it.

I went back to double check this and now I'm having trouble. I did clear my cache. When I clicked on your AT&T settings link, I don't see a place to scroll to payments. I just clicked payments across the top. Then it does not say "Stored Payment Methods." It does not say ""Edit" so I can change anything. It says: See below.        It does say somewhere else that I am enrolled in autopay, but a few minutes ago it had an old checking account number in it that had to be closed recently. I put my new credit card info in, but I don't think it's set as my autopay. This is extremely frustrating. Please help.  I also looked to see if I could scroll down to "Payments" under the "My AT&T" menu at the top right. Nope. Please help.

Addition to note above: I found somewhere else on your site this statement: AutoPay will debit your CHECKING account ending in 5195 on Jun 06, 2023. Your new payment method update’s in progress.

That checking account is closed. How long will it take for the new payment method to update? I just want to be sure it's done right.

Hello @ClassyLady, we will be glad to provide more clarity on autopay.

If the payment method you choose is a different payment type, the change may take up to two business days (for example, when you are using a debit card and you change to a checking account). Until the change is complete, we'll make automatic payments using your previous card or bank account.

While you can't change the scheduled Autopay date, you can pause a scheduled Autopay payment for the current month and make a one-time payment. Learn more about ways to pay your bill.

If you need assistance with the process, please feel free to reach out.
