year keeps resetting on at&t cl4940 phone

I have a landline home phone that uses an AT&T CL4940. Every now and then the year changes to last year's date, just the year, nothing else. I reset it manually and it's ok for a long time, then out of the blue it gets reset, but by whom? Why?

Also I get an odd msg about setting the Access Code. I checked it and it's what I set it to a long time ago,not the default anymore. Why the msg??

The year changing is going to be due to what the carrier is sending along with the caller ID. Access code I don't know. Your best bet is to read the manual, which can be found online.

Addendum: The access code msg only seems to happen when I have the answering msg option turned off (so phone will ring) but the ringer is off. Odd eh??  I do this to shut down spammer/scammer calls. Seems to work.

Let's see if we can get the year to stop resetting, @astro3ron2!

Like @spoom2 said, you'll want to check the phone manual

Manual doesn't help a bit. Manual says nothing. I'd read through it and also checked other people's solutions. Nada. That's like rebooting your PC to "fix" the problem. I suspect an internal S/W- firmware issue with the phone/answering system. But since I don't have schematics/code for that stuff, can't solve the problem by myself.

"..due to what the carrier is sending along with the caller ID...",

what carrier, the incoming caller? Why would the incoming carrier change my settings? What else is coming in along with the ph #? Is there a description of the incoming signal contents I could read about? Caller ID is most likely spoofed. Only way to get true caller ph # is getting an official trace via ATT and noting the ref # file a police report. Even the ph # listed from the caller is probably spoofed.

The carrier is who you get your phone service from. If you read the manual you would have seen time is set off the caller ID, if that information is wrong than time or date will be changed, though normally not the year. Again, there are no software or firmware changes for your phone. Doesn't matter if the number is spoofed it doesn't affect the code sent for time information. The code is called an FSK code, it's a burst of data that rides the CID information. A power failure will cause the phone system to lose the time and date information also if it's not on a battery backup.
