Can’t log into HBO Max using AT&T on ipad
Within the HBO Max app on my iPad, I select to login with a provider and select AT&T. I then get a modal saying We want to keep your info safe. We haven’t noticed any activity in a while. We’re redirected you for your security. But I’m never redirected. I have the AT&T app installed on my ipad and can login/access my account fine there. I can access HBO max on my iphone and on my tv.

We are here to help you access your HBO Max account through your iPad, @hools.
We do understand how important it is to be able to watch your favorite shows and movies! If you are able to access HBO Max on your TV and cell phone, it may just not recognize this new device.
If you are using the HBO Max app on your iPad, Try logging in through the web browser. Go to hbomax.com and select Sign In in the upper right corner of the page. Be sure to click on Sign In with a Mobile Provider. After that a pop-up message will say "Do you want to allow HBO Max to use your TV provider subscription?" tap Don't Allow.
Also, please check for any HBO Max app updates and if there is any available please install the update.

still stuck. Trying to login via the website on my iPad opens the app. I can login fine on my computer. iPad and app are up-to-daw.

In the meantime, make sure your device is updated with software version iOS 12.2+. This version allows you to stream on your iPad.
