Question: If you have dual receivers do they still have to be made by the same manufacture?

We have been a DirecTV customer for about 10 years and never had any real problems with our receivers (asides lightning). Back in the day, we were told that if you wanted multiple receivers they had to be made by the same manufacture. It was never a real problem we just always purchased RCA receivers.

Lately I've been thinking about getting a DirecTV DVR. I've been looking around and finding one made by RCA is not easy or cheap. Especially when I see offers for like this: http://www.directv.com/see/landing/dvr_rebate.html

So my question is: Question: If you have two receivers do they still have to be made by the same manufacture?

thanks
