Poor picture quality

I recently upgraded to wireless mini genies 2 for all 7 TV's. I had all TV's wired before. Are the wireless genies going to provide the same quality picture as the wired genies.? It seems like the picture quality is not as good as before.

Let's get you the best picture quality possible, @azintrepid!

You should definitely be seeing the same picture quality out of the wireless minis as you did the wired minis. Some customers have reported even better picture quality!

Let's check your settings to make sure we have everything set correctly for you. Using your DIRECTV remote:

  • Press Menu > Down Arrow to Settings > Right Arrow to Display > Press Select on Display > Down Arrow to TV Resolutions > You can have as many selected as you want but make sure there is a checkmark next to 1080i as that is the most used setting.
  • Once you confirm 1080i is check marked, press Exit
  • On live TV press Info > Right Arrow Four Times to Audio/Video > Press Select on Change Resolution and Format > Press Select on Next until your mini is set to 1080i + Original Format > Press Select on Done

After checking those settings, make sure you are watching an HD show/channel and you should be as good if not better than your wired minis.

Changing equipment can be jarring for some people so it is best to watch for a little while from a normal distance before determining if the issue persists.

If the issue does persist, let us know!

Thank you for your help. I've checked those settings. Yes, 1080i resolution was already checked and the mini was already set to 1080i + Original Format.  Can you please provide any more suggestions.

You have 2 wireless Mini Genies for 7 TVs? Are you using powered HDMI splitters then, or did you mean something else?

Though they have the same quality output as wired Genies (except for the C61K for course being the only 4K option), wireless can deal with signal loss that has the chance to mess with the quality that comes into the Mini before it outputs it to the TV.

Personally, I prefer HDDVRs over all Mini Genies. Not only is wired more reliable than wireless, but you get 2 tuners and 500GB recording space and can work independently as needed. Mini Genies are clients, not receivers, so each steal capability from the main Genie.

Though if you have the Genie-2 (HS17), then you are forbidden from having receivers, being a Client only system. A regular Genie and 2 HDDVRs is better. And remember there is no monthly cost difference between Client (Mini Genie or RVU) and receiver (HDDVR or HD non-DVR).

I put my wireless mini on the same TV as my wired one and there is absolutely no difference in the picture quality. Try it.

Both my wireless mini genies are C41W-100 and C61W-400 for only TWO tvs and the main HD receiver is HR44-700.   The Wireless Sender is a WVB2R0-34.   Maybe recheck the model#'s on your minis.   Our wireless set-up is 9 months old.  We have a 1100 sq foot ranch home with the wireless sending unit in the basement.

1080i and 1080p pictures are great on both wireless in living room and bedroom.   The third  4K, UHD, HDR, TV,  is in the basement.  I hope you have solved your picture quality.

To clarify, I have 7 mini genie 2's wireless.  One genie for each TV.  I qualified for an upgrade and direct TV set me up with the wireless mini genie 2's.  I had the mini genies and two dvr's.

I now have a HS17-500 and 7 mini genies C61W-700.  All our TV's are 4K.  Each TV has an RG-6 double shielded coax cable.  Direct TV said the wireless were the best.

Did I get the best that Direct TV offers?  I want the best picture and surround sound capability.  Do I have the best?  I am not happy with the picture on all the TV's.  We have had this upgrade for several months.

Thank you for your help.

Since the settings are where they should be and the pictures still aren't up to par, we recommend utilizing our Troubleshoot & Resolve Tool

After you sign in, choose TV > Picture Issues.

Let us know what the result is so we can further assist you, if needed.
