Error Code 721 and 722

Channel Not Purchased and Service Expired

Are you trying to watch TV but see Channel Not Purchased or Service Expired? Are you not seeing your channels? No to worry, you can quickly resolve this by performing the following:

  1. Unplug the receiver from the wall outlet for 15 seconds and plug it back in
  2. Refresh your service: go to directv.com/refresh and follow the instructionsRefresh.png
  3. You may need to perform Step 1 and Step 2 in conjunction fully resolve this.

What do error codes 721 and 722 mean?

  • Error 721 – Channel Not Purchased sometimes means the channel is not a part of your programming.
  • Error 722 – Service Expired - this error displays when the receiver is not able to access the correct channel information.

If you are not sure the channel is a part of your line up, log into your account at directv.com. In some cases, an upgrade is needed to view the content. You can chat with us by clicking here to address this.

Those shows were recorded via the networks' OnDemand channel (1000's channel numbers), not satellite channel.  Most networks limit our ability to FF through their own sponsored commercials, and DirecTV has no control over that.  Record those shows from the regular satellite channels and you'll be able to FF through the commercials.

Not really the topic of this thread.

Search this forum and you'll find your answer.  In a nutshell, you need to set up the Series Recordings using the Channel Guide instead of Search. Then it will only record from the specified channel.

721 is generated by the DTV system to prevent unauthorized viewing of channels as well as to force customers to upgrade equipment and pay more for services (wanted and unwanted) such as service calls, equipment protection, HD, DVR, DVR Home wide, even local channel access, etc. This is proved by the fact that you can experience 721 on all channels when you have a perfect billing or may even have better than perfect and maintained a large credit on your account for many years and when you attempt to get it removed and service restored, and the "experts" can't do it, they tell you that you need to upgrade. AT&T/DTV has admitted as much because they want everyone to use their "Genie" and get off the fully functional SD receivers just so they can charge for all those extra bells and whistles not to mention that they also want to bill you for "Leasing their equipment" unlike the ones folks own.

It's the station owners that pulled their signal, not DirecTV. Greedy station corporations are doing this more often to make up for lost advertising revenue from declining viewership. I'm glad that companies like DirecTv, Dish and Comcast are no longer willing to simply pay them more and more money. Contact the company that owns your Ch44 Fox and tell them quit being so greedy. Ask they why service providers should have to pay them anything when they get to use our public airwaves for FREE?!? In the mean time, use an off-air antenna to get that station.  Or change providers (at least until the same thing happens to them!).

If the station owner pulled their programming the DirecTv should enable the networks, i.e. 391, 393, 397, 399  to their customers as this is what we ARE PAYING FOR! This is TOTAL GARBAGE not to mention Directv's breaking contracts!

Yeah, it doesn't work that way. It's illegal for DirecTV or any other TV provider to give you out-of-area TV stations just because your local station is playing hardball and yanks their signal. You can thank the FCC for these regulations.

And all TV provider contracts protect themselves from exactly this situation. They have no control when a local station owner yanks their signal. Or would you rather they just keep paying more and more and raise our bills even higher??? No thank you!

Suddenly getting the 722 error code for every channel on receivers we have been using for a long time. Resetting the receiver has not solved our problem. Very frustrating experience.

I have been getting the Sun sports (653) channel for the Tampa Bay Lightning games for years. Now this season I only get the channel up to the pre-game, once the game starts I receive the 721 error code. I have called 3-4 times in regards to this and on the phone for over an hour each time. Each person has come up with a different reason as to why this is happening. The last call, they had said that I get certain channels for the regional network (which are part of my plan), but I pay for a complete added sports package that Suns sports is included. Again, this channel is working all other times except once the game starts. I am in California so it's not a case of a blackout for a local team. I am very frustrated that I cannot get an answer that would explain the error code and the coverage for the game.
