DVR not recording properly..

My wife has the Detroit Tigers as a team favorite team. She has set them to record all games and set the stop time 1 1/2 hours late.  

If the game records at all it stops in a shorter time then the 1 1/2 hour extension.  We can no longer depend on the dvr to record as scheduled!

Hello @magnumrtawd, let’s get your DVR recording properly again.

 

First we would like to clarify a couple of things.

  • Is there any kind of error code or message when attempting to watch the program that partially recorded?
  • Did you have any severe weather during the time of the recording?

The items above could cause a partial recording, otherwise we can follow these steps to verify everything is working correctly.

 

Press the Dash button which is located on the bottom left hand side of the remote control below the number seven. This will bring up a message that should say “SWiM: Connected” if it is not connected we may need to check your cables to make sure they are hand tight.

 

Next we will test the recording functionality.

  • Attempt to record a live broadcast
  • While it is recording attempt to change the channel

If there was an error message when attempting to change channels we will want to look into that specific message or error code and troubleshoot the issue.

No error codes. Passed all other tests  No weather problems. I unplugged and rebooted

the DVR HR54-500. its 4 or 5 years old. Recorded ok today.

How often should this dvr be upgraded?

There's no standard time frame for when equipment should be upgraded. A receiver can work for several years, and sometimes only a few.

Directv has had this problem for years. Favorite teams just is not working correctly. It will be fine for a few games, and then, all by itself, quit working correctly.

Direct refuses to admit the problem, and just tells you the standard troubleshooting procedures, it is useless.

does anybody have experiance with ATT-TV ?

Does weather affect it like DirecTv? Do I need to purchase a set top box for each tv?  Are you happy with ATT TV?
