DVR is not recording the entire show

In the past two weeks, three shows on different channels have been cut off either half way through the show or in the last five minutes.  The shows started in time and it shows the entire show was recorded but it stops and the "delete this show?" message comes up.

Hi @TLewis16,

Please check your DVR history to see if it gives you a code. You can find the DVR History by pressing Menu > Recordings > History > highlight/select the program > press the info button on the remote. If you find an error code, please post the code here to further troubleshoot.

I checked the history and did not see any error codes. Each shows the entire hour has been recorded, but that is not the case.

I discovered a fourth show was cut off. They all seem to have been recorded in the past ten days.

My recordings are being cutoff also. What can I do to fix this?

Hi @animallover492, we'll be happy to help with your recordings.

We have some suggestions to get this fixed.

  • Try resetting your DVR by pressing the red reset button. Usually, this will be located on the front behind a door or on the right side.
  • As mentioned in the post above we'd suggest checking the recording history. This can often shed some light on why a show didn't record.

If you are still having trouble after the above, some more information could help us solve this for you. Please let us know the following:

  • Does this happen on every show or just some?
  • Before the delete prompt appears, is there any other error code or message?

This has only happened a couple times. I went to recording history and it said there was a problem retaining program(2001) and another said deleted by LR(1001). I tried resetting the DVR. I don't know yet if that made any difference. But I did notice that when I went to a recording to watch  what I had missed of a program that was still on and it caught up with the live program the time was off by 10 minutes( the current time set on the dvr said 8:15 but when I paused the live program at 8:15 the time it was paused at said 8:30 or 8:40). It's hard to explain. This was the program with the error code 2001. I deleted the recording and the time corrected itself, like the recording automatically reset to the current time.

Hey @animallover492,

We are here to help with your DVR. Let's perform a non-disaster recovery on the DVR.

  1. Unplug the power cord of the DVR from the wall or from the back of the box and wait ten seconds. Plug the DVR back in.
  2. When three white dots appear on the screen, unplug the DVR again. Repeat this process two more times.
  3. Plug the DVR back in on the third time and leave in. Three white dots appear followed by a gear with a status bar at the bottom of the screen.
  4. If the Disaster Recovery screen does not appear, repeat the steps above. If the Disaster Recovery screen appears, wait until completion.

Let us know if this helps.

I tried that but what comes up is the setup screen- checking satellite settings, then receiving satellite info, rebuilding scheduler list. There is no gear or Disaster Recovery screen. Before I tried this I discovered another recording that didn't finish.

I had already tried that same thing before, unplugging the cord from the back of the dvr, then plugging it back in. It made no difference.

I think Max is confused. There is no disaster recovery screen on DirecTV.

Hi @animalloer492, we are happy to help.

Please inform us, have you check your cabling to your DVR to make sure that is no looseness in the connections?

Are there any transmission of any other electrical equipment that could interfere with your recordings.

We will look for your answers to better assist you.

did you get any other programs recorded in the time before yours actually recorded? What were the programs prior to the one you wanted? Did you have any others set to record at the same time?
