Trying to connect with phone while traveling but it won’t let me.  Says I must be connected to same receiver

Right. The ability to connect your DirecTV phone app to your home Genie DVR was removed last March.

You can only access DVR recordings when your phone/tablet is connected to the same home network as your Genie DVR.
