Why does direct TV app need to access photos and files on my phone? Why do they also need permission to make phone calls? These two permissions have nothing to do with WATCHING streaming TV. Unless you allow them access you can no longer use their app. I guess I will no longer use this app.

Hello, @wildwoodman5

We understand your concerns regarding the required permissions when using the DIRECTV App.

We can help clarify why these permissions are needed:

  1. Permission to access photos, media, and files: This is used for mobile DVR functions.  If you have a DVR and choose to download your recordings to watch while you are away from home, the app needs access to your files to store that content.
  2. Permission to make and receive calls: This is used to pause streaming when a call comes in so you do not miss any of the show you were watching. It can also be used to confirm you are an AT&T wireless subscriber with an appropriate plan, as streaming through the app is data free for those subscribers.

Let us know if you have any other questions,
