Having trouble with Mobile DVR Registration - for the Genie and App, In-Home and Out-Of-Home?

Registration.png

If you are having trouble setting up Mobile DVR, we have some information below that should get you squared away. Remember, you need an internet connection and your Genie must be connected as well to utilize this feature.

Turn on Mobile DVR in the Genie & The App

  1. Press Menu. Go to Settings & Help > Settings > System Info & Test
  2. Select More System Info and scroll down to Mobile DVR.
  3. One of the following should populate: HR44, HR54 or H44How to connect - In-Home registration
  4. Enable Auto Prepare:
    1. Go to setting screen > Activate the client
    2. Proceed to the settings screen
    3. Select mobile DVR
    4. Turn on the mobile DVR auto prepare option.

If you do not see the DVR version, reset the receiver by pressing and holding the red reset button located near the access card. Check the status again using the steps listed above. If you do not have a compatible DVR, click here to chat with us.

How to connect - In-Home registration

Make sure your mobile device is on the same network as the Genie. If the DVR is connected to a guest network or a wired connection, the functionality may not work. A device on Wi-Fi may not be on the same network as a the DVR if it is wired due to the internal mapping of the modem. A way to determine if the mobile device is on the same network is to use the remote function on the app to see if it controls the TV. If the app does not control the TV, the following may resolve the issues:

Go to the Genie and press the Dash key [-] on the receiver remote. You will see one of the following:

  • Internet Connected – If internet is connected, set the External Device on your receiver to Allow
  • Internet: Never Connected or Not Detected: Check out this article to connect the receiver (DVR). Once connected, Set the External Device on your Receiver to Allow.

NoteVerify the mobile device is connected to the internet. If not, reset the modem and the device. We highly recommend downloading the latest version of the app.

Out-Of-Home Setup

If you are attempting to register a second device while out of your home network, you can do so if you have already registered a device. If not, you will have to register a device first before adding a second outside of your network. To add a second device, follow the steps below.

  1. Tablet: Select ‘Playlist’, then ‘On DVR.’

Phone: Tap the 3 lines at the top left. Select ‘Playlist’. Select ‘On DVR.’

    2. Select “Register your iPhone/iPad/Phone/Tablet.”

    3. Edit the Device name as desired. Select ‘Add Device.’

If still having problems accessing your DVR content from outside the house, you may need to open some ports to your DVR. Here is a post that goes over it.

Hope this helps!

Ok....There is not a lot of information on the net about this but I think I figured it out. I previously had GenieGo. Be sure to uninstall GenieGo from your device as I believe it may conflict with the new DirecTV app

This is NOT easy to do. A lot of moving parts here. I'll do my best to put it in some sort of order. Make sure your Mobile Device is on the same wireless network as your DVR

  1. Install the DirecTV app and/or update it if necessary. I used Directv for Tablet since I have an Android Tab
  2. Do not login....What?? Yes, I'll repeat it....DO NOT LOGIN!!! If you are already logged in LOG OUT!
  3. Power down your mobile device...wait 2 minutes after it fully powers down
  4. Go to menu of your authorized DVR & ensure whole home is authorized & external devices are set to "Allow"
  5. Go to MENU / SETTINGS of the DVR, INFO & Test / More Info - scroll down. Under MobileDVR - I'm guessing you see "sync-n-go pre-prepare DISabled" The only way to enable it is on your mobile device. We're getting there, bear with me.
  6. Go to your router & ensure UDP ports 8088-8089 are set for port-forwarding from the IP address of your DVR (Look it up on net if you don't know how)
  7. Power on your mobile device
  8. Login to your DirecTV app - here's where it gets tricky
  9. If you receive a message to register your device click "not now" - My app crashed when I tried to register it here
  10. Go to Playlists / My Downloads / Click "Get Started" - WAIT for it to complete
  11. In the upper right corner go to "settings" - the little gear icon
  12. Go to "DVR Access" - Here is where you enable Auto Prepare
  13. You'll also see "System Info" - "Network assistant" (should have SIX green radio buttons with "passed") If you see any red, check your network. "Live Streaming" here is where you can check the box for Live Streaming your shows to your mobile device. And finally....The all critical "Auto Prepare" - Slide the button from OFF to ON! It doesn't work smoothly & my app crashed the first time. Just re-enter the app, it should be ok.
  14. Now you can register your mobile device & your DVR under Menu / Settings / Info & Test / More System Info - scroll down to Mobile DVR section & you should see your device Name: iPhone or your device Platform: iOS or Android Registration Status: Enabled | sync-n-go pre-prepare ENabled!

It takes a LONG time to pre-prepare if you have a lot of recordings like I did but I'm hopeful this post is helpful to someone else. I'll do my best to answer questions if you have any.

If you r on android device. Go to settings general later to apps choose directv shi*t app settings and clear dat. No need to uninstall just clear data. Go to your home screen and log in to your app with user name and password. Then you stary fresh should let you register your Dvr. I just did it 5 minutes ago after months of worth of battle and it worked on my Lg Stylo. Cant believe it but it actually works. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the reply!

i performed everything in your instructions and it sees the DVR, I can control with app remote but it still won't let me register the dvr. Also, when looking at system info next to mobile dvr it says none. Is there anything else I can try?

Ok after some level of frustration I decided to disconnect the DVR from Ethernet and connect it to wireless.  Waited overnight and was able to register all devices. After doing that I reconnected to Ethernet and everything functions as expected.

@Aukfan34 Are you able to access channels below 201 and access your full DVR playlist while out of home? Do you pass all the connectivity tests while out of home as well?

No I'm not able to do anything when I'm not connected to home network. Does this have anything to do with not keeping the DVR on wireless?

I thought so at first. Actually I was blaming it on anything u could. Lol. As of two days ago, my app is functioning properly in and out of the home. I did not do anything special. It just started working on its own. As for the DVR, my HR44 wireless is off and the unit is hard wired to my router via DECA

Interesting. Maybe that'll happen for me as well.

Uninstaller and reinstalled app and was able to access Playlist and channels under 201 while on wifi. Turned off wifi and lost everything above. It NEEDS to be much more user friendly. We are not all geeks.

In the past I was able to watch directv on my phone.  Now It tells me to register my device.  I have tried this, but I get a message of"You can only redister 5 devices to your dvr.  this device has been de-registered.  Please re-register.  I have tried this many times,  this is also happening on my wifes phone.  What can I do?

Thanks

Hi @cloughboy,

We have moved your post to the correct board. How many devices have been registered to your account? This will cause issues and prevent devices from being registered.
