Having trouble with Mobile DVR Registration - for the Genie and App, In-Home and Out-Of-Home?

If you are having trouble setting up Mobile DVR, we have some information below that should get you squared away. Remember, you need an internet connection and your Genie must be connected as well to utilize this feature.

Turn on Mobile DVR in the Genie & The App

  1. Press Menu. Go to Settings & Help > Settings > System Info & Test
  2. Select More System Info and scroll down to Mobile DVR.
  3. One of the following should populate: HR44, HR54 or H44How to connect - In-Home registration
  4. Enable Auto Prepare:
    1. Go to setting screen > Activate the client
    2. Proceed to the settings screen
    3. Select mobile DVR
    4. Turn on the mobile DVR auto prepare option.

If you do not see the DVR version, reset the receiver by pressing and holding the red reset button located near the access card. Check the status again using the steps listed above. If you do not have a compatible DVR, click here to chat with us.

How to connect - In-Home registration

Make sure your mobile device is on the same network as the Genie. If the DVR is connected to a guest network or a wired connection, the functionality may not work. A device on Wi-Fi may not be on the same network as a the DVR if it is wired due to the internal mapping of the modem. A way to determine if the mobile device is on the same network is to use the remote function on the app to see if it controls the TV. If the app does not control the TV, the following may resolve the issues:

Go to the Genie and press the Dash key [-] on the receiver remote. You will see one of the following:

  • Internet Connected – If internet is connected, set the External Device on your receiver to Allow
  • Internet: Never Connected or Not Detected: Check out this article to connect the receiver (DVR). Once connected, Set the External Device on your Receiver to Allow.

NoteVerify the mobile device is connected to the internet. If not, reset the modem and the device. We highly recommend downloading the latest version of the app.

Out-Of-Home Setup

If you are attempting to register a second device while out of your home network, you can do so if you have already registered a device. If not, you will have to register a device first before adding a second outside of your network. To add a second device, follow the steps below.

  1. Tablet: Select ‘Playlist’, then ‘On DVR.’

Phone: Tap the 3 lines at the top left. Select ‘Playlist’. Select ‘On DVR.’

    2. Select “Register your iPhone/iPad/Phone/Tablet.”

    3. Edit the Device name as desired. Select ‘Add Device.’

If still having problems accessing your DVR content from outside the house, you may need to open some ports to your DVR. Here is a post that goes over it.

Hope this helps!

Situation:

My HR44 DVR is connected to my home network and is not  wired.

It is set up to accept  to allow an external device.

I have the DirecTV for Tablets app loaded on my Android tablet

The tablet is connected to the same home network.

Problem:

When I try to register my device from the DirecTV for Tablets app it goes into the load/wait icon and doesn't come out.

The app says it cannot find a  DVR on the network .  (Is that because the tablet isn't registered?)

What can I do?   I have uninstalled the app, rebooted, and reinstalled, but this has not helped.

Under the new DirecTV software, I can't find a lot of things mentioned.  Where is the Mobile DVR info shown in settings now on the Genie?

My internet is connected to my DVR via coax. Do you think this has anything to do with the issue of the app working, not working, etc.  Currently with a new ipad I can't register the device.  On devices already registered I can't download any programs.  Those recorded before a certain date have the download arrow, but won't download.  Newer shows don't even have the download arrow.

These steps are no longer valid with the recent updates.

I'm not surprised. About 5 months ago, my Android pad (Lollipop) stopped working entirely with the updated DirecTV app.

Yeah thanks a lot for that - If you have Android 5 (Lollipop or lower) you're screwed.

What's the solution? Oh yeah....you have to buy a NEW PAD so you can get the updated Android OS so that it works with the new DirecTV App.

Isn't that fantastic?!!?

Basically, spend more money on hardware you don't need. I'm about to cancel my DTV sub.

I just had this issue too and spent a fair amount of time on the phone with an agent. I did have to restart the genie and now I see in the tv settings under the moble DVR section that it says device: internal, service: active. Nothing about HR44 though.  I was finally able to register my device on the phone app. There is still a big bummer.  Apparently you have to download your recorded shows at home while connected to WiFi before you can access them outside of the home. Once you are disconnected from the home WiFi you can’t download or access anything on your DVR for mobile viewing. I feel like that kinda defeats the purpose, they make it super inconvenient.

Mine has stopped working since the update/combine login of at&t and direct tv on August 14. I have been on the phone with support for several hours, spent many many hours resetting and re-installing receivers, routers, and apps and I still can’t register my mobile devices. I am frustrated beyond belief. This worked perfectly BEFORE the update! I travel and watching my shows while traveling was very valuable to me. Every time I see the direct tv ad to “take it with you” I want to throw something at the screen!!! In addition no one has ever contacted me regarding a solution, my bills however continue without a hitch. I am ready to throw in the towel and try another service. This is an awful way to treat long time customers!

This solution is out dated and the problem continues for many customers.

That's 100% accurate - currently (other than buying a NEW device with an updated OS) I know of no solution to help the older OS's.

It really s*cks (bad word??) especially since Samsung & other device makers refuse to update the OS on their older hardware especially since it can completely handle it.

You have 2 choices.

1) Buy a new device even though yours works perfectly

2) Cancel DirecTV & get a new service.

That's the list.....that's it as far as I know

Same thing here. Was fine, well some times.

Then quit. HR54 is still hard wired to network.

I reinstalled App on Kindle Fire, can not find DVR.

I see complaints across the board.

I would ask if you a setup that is working, what is your hard wear, but then you are not looking for this post.

So list what you have that is not working.

Dear ATT not a solid move.

As listed in some of the earlier posts.
