Directvnow on my smart TV

I was told by the salesman that I only need one control box as all my other TVs are smart TV's, but when I went to the Samsung app store they don't have the Directvnow app. I am seeing on the web that this is a common sales tactic that is used to close the deal. That being said this is basically called "Bait and Switch" and for a company the size of ATT they should be very aware of how the US Federal government and the Federal Trade Commission views this.

Has anyone else seen this issue?

regards,

DIRECTVNOW was rebranded to AT&T TV NOW about a year ago because of the name confusion. This is their streaming only TV provider. It has nothing to do with DirecTV which is satellite service.

The DirecTV app is for on mobile (smartphone/tablet) only. It is a secondary perk of the satellite service. It cannot be used to stream on a TV. It is only for viewing on the go on a small screen.

There were TV's made with an RVU Client built-in, also known as DirecTV ready. They function as a Client of the main Genie receiver. It is essentially having a Mini Genie Client built-in. Regardless if RVU TV, Mini Genie Client, HD non-DVR, or HDDVR, each additional TV is $7 on your monthly bill.

If this "salesman" was in person, then that was not a DirecTV employee. Those are 3rd party sales reps that send new orders to other companies. Even if it was a company owned AT&T store, they are similar to the 3rd party they used to be as they are not employees of the DirecTV service itself.

Regardless if on purpose or was just badly trained, that was a bad salesman either way.

@cwgraves11

As a note, if you do end up getting more TVs, I would suggest HDDVRs over Clients (RVU or Mini Genie). Clients are not receivers so steal a tuner each from the main box and cannot work without it. HDDVRs have 2 tuners and 500GB recording space so gives you more reliability and capability for no difference in monthly cost (as the $7 is for the authorized TV, regardless of box).

That is provided you have the normal Genie line (HR34, HR44, HR54). If you have the Genie-2 (HS17) Server Tower, that foribds everything but Clients so is sub-standard for most.
