Unauthorized Hard credit inquiry

Direct Tv ran a hard credit check on my credit and I did not authorize them to do so. How can I have the hard inquiry removed off my credit report. I do not have DIRECTV or do not plan to have it

It appears direct tv and Dish and other cable providers all run (hard) credit checks on any inquiry of service per the link below.

http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/General-Credit-Topics/Direct-TV-Hard-or-Soft-Credit-Bureau-Pull/td-p/4643739

If you can prove you have no relationship with AT&T or direct tv and have made no inquires into service, then I am sure you can approach the credit reporting company to remove. From some posts I see, they may require verification from the company that requested the credit check.

A couple of months ago I was alerted by LifeLock that someone made a hard inquiry at EquiFax on my account. A week later the postman delivered a bill addressed to my name, but at a different address blocks away (postman knew my name). Someone used my name and Social Security number to open an account. I filed a police report and the service address was on the bill. With the billing information, LifeLock conferenced a call to Direct TV. They immediately stopped service, cancelled all charges and will be removing the hard inquiry. I now have a seven year freeze on my credit report.

Direct TV has a webpage where you can dispute the inquiry.

Well my problem is when I called about Directv on 10/12 I told them NO to a Hard Credit pull that was a non-starter for me on 10/20, then the rep said they would check my ATT account (which is 15+ years active) and said they confirmed approval with my wireless ATT account.  So we proceeded and now I have Directv in my home.

Now I see there is a hard pull on my Equifax.  I want this removed from my credit report - I 100% said NO to a credit hard pull.  Matter of fact I went to combine my bill for wireless and Directv and was told again a Hard Pull was required and again I said NO and we could not go any further.  I even posted on Twitter to @ATT and @ATTHelp how crazy it was to have to Hard Pull credit to combine to active AT&T accounts!

How can you guys pull a Hard Credit when the customer flat out says NO?  Then make up some story about checking their active AT&T wireless account for approval?  Is that what you guys do to get a new account at any cost, to lie?

Hi @OdieThree,

I greatly apologize about the issues. I know it must be upsetting when you are informed that there is no hard pull on your credit, and then you found out there was one made. We should always be transparent with credit pulls, and I apologize about your experience. I will be happy to look into this for you. If you could please send us a private message with your account number, a brief description including dates, and a good number just in case we need to contact you, I will work on getting this fixed for you.

@ATTHelpForums AT&T I need your help on removing a hard inquiry from Direct TV. When they hard inquiry was pulled we didn't have an account with directv nor did we request one. I called Equifax and they said I needed to resolve this with directv. I called directv and they referred me to a portal on their website where I filled out all of our information and I never heard anything back. Please help

@Juniper , I was told by direct tv to do that 2 months ago and I have not heard back from direct tv and the hard pull is still on the report. How long are we supposed to wait until we hear back something?

I had the EXACT same issue. Hard credit pull with explicit word that they would use my AT&T history instead. They even said they would take care of it after I filled out a form. It's been MONTHS! UNACCEPTABLE! Please help me clear this situation up!

I received a report from Equifax that someone checked my credit report. that was DirectTV. I don't have service with them at all. I don't know how they did a hard inquiry on my credit. I'm keep trying to reach someone over the phone. they just keep transferring me to different departments and end up cut me off.

I filed a police report and the service address was on the bill. With the billing information jumble solver, LifeLock conferenced a auto clicker call to Direct TV. They immediately stopped service, word unscrambler cancelled all charges and will be removing the hard inquiry. I now have a seven year freeze on my credit report.

@PIKITASIA , well here is the deal. I don't even have service with them. Just the hard inquiry and nothing else. There is no bill nothing. Not sure if I can file a police report if there is no charges or a bill.

@PIKITASIA

Well glad your situation is taken care of. That is further than @TroyVFuchs as theirs is just a credit inquiry, not an actual account opened. That is why there are two different dispute webforms www.directv.com/notmycreditinquiry and www.directv.com/notmyaccount

@TroyVFuchs

If it has been 2 months you could try calling DirecTV and requesting a supervisor to see what to do when it has taken so long. Sorry I don't have any other suggestions on this.
