Returnable models would only be any Genie (except 1st gen HR34 and C31) and the H25. DirecTV went to lease only with the launch of the first Genie, so all currently returnable models have never had an owned option.
Why do you believe you own it? As noted, the only receivers they want back never had an owned option. Others have mistakenly thought they owned a receiver because they got it from somewhere other than Directv. Unfortunately, that doesn’t necessarily make it owned.
Hopefully they still have the box to return and did not recycle it. That way the non-return fee (NRF) can be reversed.
Even if they had a 15 year old box that was from the old owned days there would be no point in keeping it as the new account system doesn't allow reactivation of boxes. Makes sense since DirecTV has only offered leased options for almost a decade now.
But yeah, non-return fee (NRF) absolutely means it is a Genie/Mini Genie or H25 as lease only and the only returnable models currently.
