Location Zip Code Change for RV receiver

I again just went through the process of calling to have our location zip code changed to receive local channels in our 5th Wheel Trailer RV while we are spending three winter months in Texas. This particular time went fairly smooth but it did require being transferred to a "technical specialist" and going thru the routine of providing redundant information. I don't understand why this temporary zip code location change can't be simplified to allow the customer to simply log into their AT&T DirecTV account and enter the zip code they will be staying in for a certain period of time. On every occasion that I have gone thru this burdensome process it was obvious the 1st line call rep knew nothing about this process. Please, please, simplify this process. Thanks for listening.

We have a separate account for our RV but our RV is constantly moving....DISH satellite allows user in the set up mode on TV to input a zip code the change locations and get local channels...we move every few days...each time we move, I averages 15 to 30 minutes to change locations when calling DIRECT TV...15 minutes in the queue we to get someone, and then if I’m lucky, get someone that understands that we moved in a motor home and wish to get the local channels for that area...it is a crap shoot as to whether I get someone that understands what I need done...maybe a separate number to call if u are an RV owner? I understand the security issue, and am thankful for the. Verification process to make sure who is making the changes...just get frustrated when I have to explain each time that we are in an RV and they don’t understand what we need.

Agree with all your comments. Seems crazy to me that DirecTV can't somehow automate the process to let the customer enter a zip code change in their account without spending an hour on the phone trying to get it done. As you said, one of the first challenge is getting someone who understands the process and can successfully do it.

I have Direct Tv in my motorhome.  I have weingard self finding dish on top of motorhome.  Snout 6 mo ago I  was having problems finding any signal where we were camping. We were at the beach with nothing blocking signal!!!  I somehow was playing around with remote and found the area you can change your own zip code location and it worked.  We went last week and I forgot where to go.  Anybody know where this is located

I didn’t have to call and deal with technical🤪

The zip code only gives you the general aiming settings and has nothing to do with the Winegard dish. AFAIK the Winegard dish uses GPS to know were to aim the dish.  In April 2019 DTV is shutting down the SD channels making that dish obsolete.

@Dambuehl The FCC will not allow DTV or any other provider to provide any channels not in you DMA that is determined by you zip code this it to provide for the proper taxes to be payed and since home receivers are not suppose to move from that zip code there will never be a need to change it.

Moving home receivers around in an RV is technically a violation of the TOS so AT&T maybe cracking down on it.

Could you please explain what the AFAIK is in your statement of June 13, 2018. Are you saying the current Winegard travel’r satellite will be obsolete as of May 2019. My understanding is the current Winegard traveler dish transmits HD channels not SD. Any information would be appreciated.

The Winegard Travel'r is one of the few RV satellite dishes that's SWM-compatible and receives HD channels.  The prior comments apply to non-HD RV dishes and equipment.

I was not moving a home receiver in our RV. I'm paying for a dedicated receiver that stays in our RV.

This is complete crap. DISH was easy. Our 300,000 motorhome came with the Direct TV satellite on the roof. And it’s a huge waste of time to try and call in every time we change locations - which is exactly why we have a motorhome. If they didn’t want you to do this then DON’T install direct TV satellites on the motorhomes!!! I just spent an hour on the phone and still get error 771. Even asking to speak to the supervisor - still had no idea what to do. Direct TV is aweful and it’s a good reminder set why I don’t have his service at home!!  DISH was good and never had a problem to move locations.

As stated RVs are suppose to have an RV account that gives them access to the DNS channels so they are not allowed to get the local affiliates of those channels.  People that are using their home receivers are in a grey area as DTV was willing to allow them to change the service address to get local channels but it appears AT&T isn't.

Then I wish AT&T wouldn’t have lied to me (to make the sale) when they told me they were RV friendly. I was told to just call customer service when I set up the mobile receiver and dish to let them know where I was. Very frustrating.
